Equipment

  • 1 Heart-Shaped Mold
  • 1 Pastry Bag

Ingredients

Donut Batter

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Icing

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 4 - 6 tbsp whole milk add as much milk as you need to make a creamy icing.
  • 1 tsp vanilla or almond extract
  • 2 drops red food coloring

Instructions

Donuts

  • Preheat oven 375°
  • Cream together sugar, shortening, and egg.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into the sugar mixture, alternating with the milk.
  • Make about a ½ inch hole on the tip of my pastry bag. Next, place the pastry bag inside a tall drinking glass and fold the top over the sides of the glass.
  • Fill the bag with the batter.
  • Fill the heart-shaped mold with one row of batter.
  • Bake at 375° for about 10 minutes.
  • Bake donuts until lightly golden, remove the donuts from the oven and place them on a baking rack to cool.
  • While the donuts are baking start making the icing.

Icing

  • In a medium-sized bowl, add ingredients together.
  • If the icing is too thick, add more cream. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar. With a spoon, blend icing. Use the back of the spoon to break up any clumps of sugar.
  • Add 2-3 drops of red food coloring if you want pink icing.
  • Dip cooled donuts in the icing and place back on the rack with icing side up. Sprinkle sugar candies.
