Ingredients
1cupunsalted butterroom temperature
1cupgranulated sugar
1large egg
1egg yolk
1tspvanilla extract
¾cupblack cocoa powder
2cupsall-purpose flour
¼tspsalt
Instructions
Prepare Dough: Cream the butter and sugar together until smooth and fluffy. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla, mixing until well combined.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, mix black cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually mix the dry and wet ingredients to form a firm dough. If the dough is too dry, mix it with your hands to form a ball.
Roll and Cut: Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness between two pieces of parchment paper. Cut out your desired shapes, using one of each tree cookie cutter. These two shapes will fit together to create a complete 3D cookie tree. Cut out the cookies, then gather the remaining dough, roll it out again, and repeat the process until all the dough is used.Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Chill the Dough: Chill cookies for at least 1 hour or until firm.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 8–10 minutes. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Form Trees: Some cookies may fit together perfectly without trimming, while others might need a slight adjustment. If the slits are too tight, carefully cut them with a small knife, taking off just a tiny bit at a time to avoid breaking the
