summer basil
i just love to grow basil during the summer, but this year i didn’t get around to planting any. so instead of having it in my garden, i just cut some stems and placed it in a mug of water. it will last for weeks as long as the stem are in water. pretty cool. i have tried doing this in the winter from the store bought basil and i haven’t had any luck. not sure why. so here is how you do this simple task…
buy some fresh basil from the grocery store
cut the stems and immediately place in a jar with water. use for all you cooking needs!

Will the cuttings root in water?

Yes, if the basil leaves don't wilt it will eventually grow roots! Kind of cool. I've never planted them but I would imagine they would do fine. Good luck! Just remember sometimes in the winter the store bought basil won't work, not sure why…
