Enjoy summertime with this collection of Fresh Fruit Recipes to kick off the warm weekend on a great start. Something is unique about summer, isn’t there? The longer days, the warmth of the sun, and, of course, the abundance of fresh fruit. I adore fresh fruit during the summer months. It’s like nature’s candy, perfectly timed to ripen when we need it most. Biting into a juicy peach or a handful of sweet, plump berries feels like the essence of summer.

But it’s not just about the taste—fruit and summer go hand-in-hand for many reasons.

A Personal Note from Janine
Greetings from Hawaii!
We spontaneously booked a trip to Kauai, and it’s been wonderfully relaxing. It’s been years since our last visit, so returning feels like a nostalgic treat.
Our days consist of discovering gorgeous beaches to spend hours lounging at, punctuated by delightful local meals for lunch and dinner.
Exploring the local cuisine and fresh fruits has inspired me to jot down notes for future recipes. This morning, we tried breakfast from a highly-rated food truck in Princeville. Their taro french toast was divine, and the vibrant purple hue made it even more memorable.
I’m eager to recreate some of these culinary experiences once we’re back home. For now, join me for a fun exploration of fruit-inspired recipes!
So, grab your favorite cup of tea or coffee and enjoy this beautiful Saturday with me!

This Week’s Tip – Mangoes
How to Tell When a Mango is Ripe
We purchased a bunch of mangoes selected by the woman at the Farmer’s Market. However, when we needed more, we struggled to find ripe ones. Here’s a quick guide on what to look for.
Color: Look for a mango with a rich, golden-yellow hue with hints of red. This indicates ripeness and sweetness.
Texture: Gently squeeze the mango. A ripe mango will yield slightly to pressure but shouldn’t be too soft or mushy.
Smell: Bring the mango close to your nose and sniff. The stem end of a ripe mango will have a sweet and fruity aroma.
Firmness at the stem: Check the firmness around the mango stem. When ripe, it should give slightly under gentle pressure, indicating it’s ready to eat
When you put an unripe mango in a paper bag, it speeds up the ripening process. The bag traps a gas called ethylene that the mango naturally produces as it ripens. This gas builds up inside the bag, making the mango ripen faster than if you just leave it out. Plus, the warmth and humidity inside the bag help create the perfect conditions for the mango to become sweeter and softer in just a day or two.
Latest Obsession – Passion Fruit
Passion Fruit or Lilikoa
A friend on Instagram recommended trying the
Lilikoa pie in Lihue during my visit. Curious, I had to look up what Lilikoa was—it turns out it’s the Hawaiian name for passion fruit.
I’m excited to visit the place that serves the pie, but I found a delicious sweet bread. Surprisingly, it has a lemony taste even though it contains no lemon in the ingredients. I suspect it’s the passion fruit that gives it that tangy flavor! The bread is absolutely delightful, and I can’t wait to try making it myself once I’m back home!
