This Halloween Popcorn is such an easy treat to make for October! Freshly popped popcorn is lightly coated in creamy white almond bark and topped with colorful Halloween sprinkles and cute candies.

I love how festive it looks without requiring much work. The sweet almond bark with the salty popcorn is such a good combination, and you can easily change the sprinkles and candies depending on what you find at the store.

Serve it in a big bowl for a Halloween party, portion it into little dishes like I did here, or package it up for friends and neighbors.

Easy Halloween Popcorn

I wanted to make a Halloween treat that was festive but incredibly simple, and this popcorn turned out so cute.

The first batch taught me something important, though. I initially used quite a bit of almond bark, and while it tasted delicious, the popcorn softened after it sat for a while. So I cut back on the coating.

The trick is to use just enough melted almond bark to lightly coat the popcorn rather than completely covering every kernel. You still get that sweet white coating, but the popcorn holds onto more of its crunch.

And honestly, I like the way the lighter coating looks, too. You can still see some of the popcorn underneath all those fun Halloween sprinkles and candies.

Why You’ll Love This Halloween Popcorn

This is one of those recipes that’s easy to pull together when you want something festive without spending the afternoon in the kitchen.

It takes just a handful of ingredients, there’s no baking involved, and you can customize the toppings however you like. It’s also easy to make a larger batch if you’re serving it at a Halloween party.

And, of course, the little ghosts and Halloween sprinkles make it pretty adorable!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Popcorn – You’ll need about 8 cups of freshly popped popcorn. Let it cool completely before adding the coating.

White almond bark – I use 6 ounces for 8 cups of popcorn. This gives the popcorn a light coating without weighing it down.

Halloween sprinkles – Use any combination of orange, black, purple, and green sprinkles you like.

Halloween candies – I added a few cute Halloween candies to mine. Candy eyeballs, ghosts, pumpkins, or other small seasonal candies would all be fun.

Salt, optional – If your popcorn isn’t already salted, a small pinch helps balance the sweetness of the almond bark.

How to Make Halloween Popcorn

1. Pop the Popcorn

Pop enough popcorn to make about 8 cups. Remove any unpopped kernels and transfer the popcorn to a large mixing bowl.

Allow it to cool completely before adding the almond bark. This is important for keeping the finished popcorn crisp.

Also to make things easier you can buy the already made popcorn. Here’s an organic popcorn that I love to use!

2. Melt the Almond Bark

Place 6 ounces of white almond bark in a small saucepan.

Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until the almond bark is completely melted and smooth. Keep the heat low and watch it.

3. Coat the Popcorn

Drizzle the melted almond bark gradually over the cooled popcorn.

Gently toss as you drizzle so that the coating is distributed throughout the popcorn. You don’t need every piece completely covered. A light coating is exactly what we’re after.

4. Add the Halloween Toppings

Spread the coated popcorn in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

While the almond bark is still soft, immediately add the Halloween sprinkles and candies. Gently press larger candies into the coating if necessary so they’ll stay in place.

5. Let the Popcorn Set

Leave the popcorn uncovered at room temperature until the almond bark is completely firm.

Once set, gently break apart any larger clusters and serve.

Tips for Making the Best Halloween Popcorn

The most important thing I learned while testing this recipe is not to use too much almond bark. You want enough to add sweetness and hold all those cute toppings in place, but not so much that the popcorn becomes heavily coated.

Make sure the popcorn has cooled completely before adding the melted almond bark. Also, spread the finished popcorn out rather than leaving it piled in the mixing bowl while the coating sets.

And don’t cover or store it until the almond bark is completely hardened and the popcorn has cooled. Trapping warmth or moisture can soften the popcorn.

Halloween Popcorn Topping Ideas

This is where you can have some fun with the recipe. I used colorful Halloween sprinkles and little seasonal candies, but there are so many possibilities.

Try candy eyeballs, candy pumpkins, mini marshmallows, orange and black sprinkles, Halloween M&M’s, pretzel pieces, or other small Halloween candies.

I wouldn’t add too many extras, though. Part of what makes this popcorn so pretty is that it still looks like popcorn rather than a bowl full of candy.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups popcorn if using freshly popped popcorn make sure to have it completely cooled
  • 6 ounces white almond bark

  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

  • Place 6 ounces of white almond bark in a small saucepan.
Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until the almond bark is completely melted and smooth. Keep the heat low and watch it.

Notes

For the crispiest popcorn: Make sure the popcorn is completely cool before adding the almond bark. Use only enough almond bark to lightly coat the popcorn, and let it set completely uncovered before storing.
Storage: Once the almond bark is completely firm, store the Halloween popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature. For the best texture, enjoy it the day it’s made.
Variations: Try candy eyeballs, Halloween M&M’s, candy pumpkins, mini marshmallows, pretzel pieces, or your favorite Halloween sprinkles.

How to Store Halloween Popcorn

Once the almond bark has completely set, transfer the Halloween Popcorn to an airtight container and store it at room temperature. Keeping the popcorn tightly sealed helps it stay fresh and crunchy.

For the best texture, I prefer this popcorn the day it’s made. If you’re making it for a party, you can prepare it earlier in the day and store it once the coating has completely hardened.

Avoid refrigerating it since moisture can make the popcorn lose its crunch.

Halloween Popcorn FAQs

Can I make Halloween popcorn ahead of time?

Yes, but I think it’s best when made the same day you plan to serve it. Make sure the almond bark is completely set before transferring the popcorn to an airtight container.

Can I use white chocolate instead of almond bark?

Yes, although the texture and setting time may be slightly different. I like almond bark for this recipe because it melts easily and sets up nicely at room temperature. I also like the taste of the white almond bark!

Why did my coated popcorn get soggy?

Too much coating can soften the popcorn. Warm popcorn or trapping moisture before the coating has completely set can also affect the texture. That’s why this recipe uses only 6 ounces of almond bark for 8 cups of popcorn.

Can I use microwave popcorn?

Yes. I would choose a fairly simple salted or lightly buttered variety so its flavor doesn’t compete with the almond bark and Halloween toppings.

What is almond bark?

Despite the name, almond bark doesn’t necessarily contain almonds. It’s a confectionery coating designed for melting and dipping and is often sold in blocks or squares in the baking aisle.
