Love Traditional Recipes But Want Something Different?

I absolutely love the holidays — especially all the baking that comes with the season. While I’m all about the classic recipes that bring back those warm, nostalgic memories, sometimes mixing things up and trying something new is fun.

If you want to step outside the traditional baking mold, here are a few creative holiday recipes that do just that!

  • Christmas Tree Cookies
  • Pinecone Brownies
  • Phyllo Dough Crinkle Cake

What Makes These Snow Globe Cookies Special?

  • Unique Design: These Christmas cookie snow globes feature a clear plastic half-ornament that creates a stunning, dome-like effect.
  • Delicious Base: The almond cookie base is flakey, flavorful, and sturdy enough to support the snow globe structure.
  • Easy DIY: No complicated techniques or baking skills needed – just a little creativity!

Ingredients for Your Snow Globe Cookies

  • Almond Cookie Base: A sturdy and tasty foundation for your globe. You can use my favorite almond cookie recipe or swap it for a classic sugar cookie.
  • Frosting: Frosting is used to decorate and “glue” the globe in place.
  • Clear Plastic Half-Ornaments: These act as the globe and can be found in craft stores or online.
  • Edible Decorations: Think sprinkles, mini gingerbread men, edible glitter, or tiny Christmas trees for a winter wonderland look.
  • Powdered Sugar or Sugar Decorating Balls: For that perfect snowy finish.

Where to Find The Candy

I made a list in my Amazon shop, so if you want to look, here’s the link!

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Make Snow Globe Cookies

A baking sheet with unbaked Snow Globe Cookies, a bowl of raw dough with a spoon, and decorative holiday-themed candies rest on a white and red striped cloth. Snowman and Santa decorations are scattered around the scene, adding a festive touch to this cozy holiday preparation.

Step 1 – Bake the Almond Cookies
Roll your almond cookie dough into about 1/8 cup round balls and place on a baking sheet. Make sure to leave enough room in between each cookie since they tend to spread during baking. Bake for 12-15 minutes and let them cool completely.

Step 2 – Make the Cream Cheese Frosting
Whip up a batch of frosting. This will be your glue to securing the holiday candies onto your cookie.

A hand meticulously decorates a frosted snow globe cookie with small holiday-themed sugar decorations. A red and white striped towel and a bowl brimming with more festive toppings are in the background on a table.

Step 3 – Decorate the Cookies
Spread frosting on each cookie to create a snowy base. Add your edible decorations while the icing is wet — tiny snowmen, santas, trees, or snowflakes are perfect!

Step 4 – Add Festive Touches
For an extra creative flair, add small sprigs of rosemary to mimic miniature Christmas trees. The natural green adds a beautiful, realistic touch to your winter wonderland scene.

A person places a clear dome over a beautifully decorated cookie, transforming it into an enchanting Snow Glove Cookie. The cookie is topped with white frosting, a small Santa figure, and edible pearls. Similar cookies are in the background amidst festive decorations and scattered sprinkles.

Step 5- Attach the Globe
Once your decorations are set, attach the clear plastic half-ornament to the cookie. Hold it in place for a minute to secure it.

Baking Tip: Make a test cookie first to figure out the right amount of dough for each one. Remember, the cookie should be large enough to hold the globe ornament comfortably!

Get Creative with Homemade Details

If you’re feeling extra creative and have the time, you can make edible decorations by shaping them out of fondant. Create tiny snowmen, stars, or gifts to make your snow globe cookies more personalized and unique.

Shortcuts for Easy Snow Globe Cookies

  • Use Store-Bought Cookie Dough: Save time by using pre-made sugar cookies or almond cookie dough.
  • Ready-to-Use Frosting: Swap homemade royal icing for store-bought frosting.
  • Pre-Made Decorations: Use edible decorations like mini candy canes, snowflakes, or holiday sprinkles.
  • Assemble Ahead of Time: Bake the cookies and prepare the decorations a day or two in advance.
  • Skip the Baking: Use plain store-bought cookies as your base to make this project even quicker.

Tips for Perfect Snow Globe Cookies

  • Sturdy Cookies: Make sure your cookies are thick enough to hold the globe.
  • Secure the Globe: Use plenty of royal icing to avoid wobbles.
  • Get Creative: Personalize each cookie with fun scenes — no two need to be alike!
  • Attach a Bakers Twine: My half ornament included a little hanger on it, so you can gently remove it or attach Bakers twine to the end for an added little touch.
