For years, I’ve always wanted to make Easter Chocolate Bark. You know, the adorable Bunny Bark that takes over your Pinterest feed!
My daughter has always wanted to make it, so I made my version this year.
Cute Easter Chocolate Bark
I love cute things. I guess I’m a kid still at heart. I like that my daughter still asks to make some fun and trendy desserts.
So, when I attempted to melt the chocolate for this part of the recipe, I met my nemesis! You see, I’ve struggled to melt white chocolate over the years. Whenever I microwaved it, I quickly ended up with big, hard chocolate and was not even close to dipping chocolate. And let’s not even talk about my stovetop fiascos!
In the past, I asked my friend, who is a talented chef, and she just microwaved it and told me that it’s super simple to make!
Back to the drawing board and many more attempts later, and still no luck. And these bags of meltaway chocolates aren’t cheap.
So, finally, I found a vital thing to add to the chocolate; you can find the details below!

Easter Chocolate Bark
This Easter offers a unique twist on traditional chocolate bark. A graham cracker caramel base that’s buttery and irresistibly sweet adds richness to this delicious spring dessert.
Get your little ones involved and let them have a blast decorating the top with their favorite candies—it’s a fun and delicious activity for the whole family to enjoy together!
Ingredients You’ll Need For Easter Chocolate Bark
- Graham Crackers (crust): The graham crackers provide a crunchy and slightly sweet base, contrasting the creamy white chocolate and colorful toppings.
- Brown Sugar (crust): The brown sugar lends a rich caramel-like flavor to the crust, enhancing its sweetness and depth.
- Butter (crust): The butter binds the graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar together, creating a firm, buttery foundation for the bark.
- White Chocolate Candy Melts: The white chocolate candy melts provide a smooth and creamy texture to the bark, acting as the perfect canvas for vibrant Easter colors and decorations.
- Food Dye: The food dye adds a pop of bright and playful colors to the bark, making it visually appealing and festive for Easter celebrations.
- Easter Candy for the topping: The Easter candy toppings bring flavor and texture to the bark, adding whimsy and charm reminiscent of Easter egg hunts and sweet treats.
Here’s How to Melt White Chocolate
Step 1 – Place Chocolate in a Microwaveable Bowl
Step 2 – Microwave
Now, here is the essential part of the instructions. Add a tablespoon of shortening to every 7 – 8 ounces of chocolate. Incorporating a small amount of vegetable shortening into the chocolates before melting helps them achieve a smoother consistency and prevents them from seizing in the microwave.
Step 3 – Cook in 30 Second Intervals
It helps to have the patience for this part.
Cook for 30 seconds, and then take out and stir the chocolate. It took a long time for my chocolate to warm, but I was determined not to overcook it. And if you take your time, the chocolate comes out perfect!
Step 4 – How to Tell When It is Ready
Once your chocolate is half melted, make sure to really stir the chocolate. Then place it back in the microwave for like 15 seconds.
This important! It is ready if you still have a few small pieces of chocolate. When you stir the chocolate, the heat of the chocolate will melt the small pieces. So stir until it is smooth and melted.
If you want to color your chocolate, add some drops of food dye at this stage.
Step 5 – Don’t Overcook!
Don’t overcook the chocolate. When the chocolate is overcooked, it will become a hard consistency, and there is no turning back. The package did say not to add water to make it smooth. But if you must add some liquid, a couple of teaspoons of cooking oil or more shortening is ok. I had it ready but never had to use the extra oil.
Easter Chocolate Bark Recipe
Ingredients
Graham Cracker Toffee
- 16 graham crackers
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 cup salted butter
White Chocolate Topping
- 24 oz candy melt (Wilton) 2 packages
- 2 tbsp shortening
- food dye Optional if you want to have colored chocolate.
Topping
- Easter candy M&M's, Cadbury Eggs, Annie's Bunny Crackers
Instructions
Graham Cracker Toffee
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Line an 11 x 15-inch cookie sheet (with rim) with parchment paper.
- Arrange graham crackers in a single layer. Each cracker should fit side by side with the other crackers. Break crackers in half to fit the whole baking sheet. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat until melted. Add brown sugar to the butter and stir. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches a boil, stirring constantly.
- Once it reaches a boil, keep stirring for 2 more minutes.
- Remove from heat and pour over the graham crackers. Use a rubber spatula or spoon to spread the toffee evenly over the crackers.
- Bake in the oven for 6-10 minutes or until the caramel is all bubbly. The toffee needs to be bubby to get the right consistency.
- Cool graham cracker toffee before adding white chocolate
Chocolate Topping
- Place Wilton Candy Melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of shortening to the chocolate melts.Incorporating a small amount of vegetable shortening into the chocolates before melting helps them achieve a smoother consistency and prevents them from seizing in the microwave.
- Microwave the candy at 50% power or the DEFROST setting for 30 seconds. I found I could use full strength if I added the shortening.
- Stir thoroughly in the bowl and continue to microwave in 30-second intervals.
- With each interval, mix chocolate thoroughly.
- When the chocolate mixture is half melted, you're getting close to done.
- Keep cooking for 30 seconds. Mix thoroughly. When you have a few unmelted pieces left, your chocolate is done. Mix the chocolate, and the rest will melt as you mix. If you want to color your chocolate, add some drops of food dye at this stage.
- Pour the smooth chocolate over the cooled graham cracker toffee.
- Add candies to the chocolate before it sets up.
- Smooth white chocolate with a rubber spatula or the back of a spoon.
- Let cool and break the Easter Chocolate Bark with either a knife or your hands.

The Bunny Bark looks so cute! But now, have a question regarding the pink bark…what did you use for coloring the bark? Gel, powder, oil based…what did you use and when did you add the coloring? I want to try this and have read several articles, but haven’t found any clear directions on coloring the bark.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Judy!
I totally forgot to mention the pink bark! Yes, I made two batches, and the Wilton Candy Melts come in a ton of colors. I used all my white ones and only had a couple of pink ones left. I love this pink chocolate. So no need to dye the white. It looks like they even have light pink chocolate! I hope you have a chance to make it!
