i’m not quite sure how long i’ve been working on this project, but it feels like i’m finally making some progress. i recently tackled my drapes dilemma. i don’t know about you, but it takes me a while to research and decide on almost all my decor in our home. i’m the queen of returns! so the other day, i was shopping at ikea and happened to spy a great deal! they had the merete (canvas) drapes on sale for $19.00 (for two panels) compared to the normal $27.99. this is a fantastic price for drapes and so i had to buy them. i ended up buying 8 panels which meant i had a ton of them to hem. you see, ikea saves money on only producing one size, and i’m sure this is how they keep their prices so low. i was bound and determined to hem them myself so i could stay on budget. since i don’t have a working sewing machine, i ended up using the iron on sewing tape. i had never used this tape, so i was a little skeptical. but, i found it worked out nicely. i only used it to make the initial small hem and then i folded it over and did the final hem by hand. i’m very happy with the results and i love the nice clean look of these drapes. prior to tackling this project, we had honeycomb type blinds that came with the house when we bought it four years ago. our new drapes add a coziness and softness to the room and they dress up the whole space.
i made these from the ikea shadow box frames and cut out butterflies from the beautiful paper source’s paper. these frames will be placed around the room on my shelves. it definitely has the feel that i’m after. i never can find the right picture for my decor, so this time i decided to make my own. it turned out to be a fun and easy project. btw, to make the butterfly 3 dimensional, i just used a little crafting foam that i placed to the back of the butterfly and scrapbooking paper. i ended up curling the wings to make it appear real.
