We’ve started preparing homemade dog food, so I recently baked some super easy three-ingredient Peanut Butter Dog Treats! These treats are made with oats, peanut butter, and bananas. They contain no additives or artificial flavors, making them a healthy and delicious snack for your pup. I used a silicone baking mat that allowed me to make 468 tiny treats, which is perfect for our puppy training!

A glass jar labeled "Maisy's Treats" brims with small, round, brown treats made from a delightful peanut butter recipe. More treats are scattered on the surface below. Nearby, a ripe banana adds a pop of color. The background is light and softly blurred, enhancing the scene's charm.

I love that I made nearly 500 treats for just a few cents—such a big money-saver! Even better, I know exactly what I’m giving our pup, Maisy, and that peace of mind is priceless.

We brought Maisy home about a year ago, and our lives have completely transformed. She’s added so much joy, and our love for her is genuinely incredible. Maisy has become such an important part of our family! Making her food has been a joy—she loves everything we make. She’ll nudge her kibble aside to get to the homemade meals!

I saw someone on Instagram sharing homemade dog treats using canned salmon mousse, which she spread over this excellent baking mat with tons of tiny treat-sized pockets. I instantly ordered the mat and set out to find the salmon mousse… but no luck! I couldn’t find it anywhere, which was a bummer since I wanted to share the recipe with you.

So instead, I came up with a simple three-ingredient dough—and it might be even better. There is no need to worry about spoilage or refrigerating the treats like you would with salmon mousse. These are shelf-stable, easy to make, and just as pup-approved!

A Picky Eater Approved This Treat!

Maisy is a picky eater, so I was surprised she loved these treats! She usually turns her nose up at uncooked bananas and peanut butter, so I feel lucky she enjoys them in this recipe.

A white bowl filled with flour and a small bowl containing peanut butter sit on a marble surface, perfect ingredients for a Peanut Butter Dog Treats Recipe. Two bananas lie behind the bowls, with scattered oats nearby. A jar labeled "Maisy's Treats" is in the background next to flowers in a vase.

Simple Ingredients:

Here are the three ingredients with their nutritional benefits for dogs, each one bolded:

  1. Bananas – Bananas are a great source of vitamins B6 and C, fiber, and potassium. They can help your dog’s digestion and boost natural energy. Plus, their natural sweetness makes them a tasty and healthy treat!
  2. Rolled oats (ground up) – Oats are gentle on the stomach and rich in soluble fiber, which can help regulate your pup’s digestion. They also contain iron, zinc, and B vitamins that support a healthy coat, skin, and overall wellness.
  3. Peanut butter – A good source of protein and healthy fats, peanut butter gives dogs an energy boost and supports muscle development. It also contains vitamin E and niacin, which are great for skin and coat health. Just make sure it’s xylitol-free, as that sweetener is toxic to dogs.

Together, these ingredients make a treat that’s delicious and packed with goodness for your furry friend!

Dog Allergies

It’s always important to keep your pup’s health in mind, especially when trying new treats. While this recipe uses simple, wholesome ingredients, some dogs may have allergies or sensitivities to bananas, oats, or peanut butter. If you’ve never given your dog one of these ingredients before, start with a small amount and monitor them closely for any signs of a reaction—like itching, digestive issues, or changes in behavior.

Also, make sure your peanut butter is free from xylitol, an extremely toxic sweetener for dogs. Always read the label carefully! When in doubt, consult your vet before introducing new foods into your dog’s diet.

A baking sheet with a red silicone mold filled with a pink mixture, possibly candy or chocolate, and a spatula resting on top. A jar of nuts and a vase with flowers in the background hint at inspiration for your next peanut butter dog treats recipe.

Homemade Doggie Treats Directions

Preheat oven to 300 degrees

Step 1 – Grind the Rolled Oats

Place the rolled oats in a food processor. Pulse until the oats are the consistency of fine oat flour.

Step 2 – Add a Banana and Peanut Butter

Next, mix a banana and peanut butter until it forms a dough.

Step 3 – Make Treats

Place the silicone mat on a flat, rimless baking tray. Press the dough into the holes, filling each cavity. Once filled, scrape any excess dough from the surface to level it out.

Transfer the baking tray with the filled mat into a preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

After baking, let it cool slightly, then flip the silicone mat onto a parchment-lined counter to release the treats.

Step 4 – Storing Treats

Place the amount you need in a jar and seal it with a lid. Store the extra in a Ziploc plastic bag in your freezer.

Simple Dog Treat Recipe

Here’s what makes this dog treat recipe so simple and easy!

You can buy oat flour ready to go – No need to grind oats yourself, which saves time and cleanup.

You probably already have the ingredients – Most people have bananas, peanut butter, and oat flour in their pantry or fridge.

It uses a cool silicone mat that makes over 400 training-size treats – This mat not only shapes the treats perfectly but also makes the process super efficient with minimal mess.

No dough to roll out – Just press the dough into the silicone mat—no rolling, cutting, or flour-covered counters to clean up

Quick and easy to make – Minimal prep and simple baking steps make this a breeze, even for beginners.

Affordable – You can make hundreds of treats for just a few cents, saving money compared to store-bought options.

Homemade Dog Treats Shelf Life

These treats are pretty shelf-stable since they’re fully baked and don’t contain any perishable ingredients like dairy or meat. Here’s a general guide:

  • On the counter (in a sealed glass jar):
They’ll last about 1 to 2 weeks at room temperature. To keep them fresh, make sure the jar is airtight and stored in a cool, dry spot.
  • In the freezer:
They can last up to 3 months. Just pop a few out as needed—Maisy will love them, whether thawed or slightly chilled!

If you ever notice a change in smell, texture, or mold, it’s time to toss them out.

A glass jar filled with brown treats labeled "Maisy's Treats" is placed on a white surface. The jar has a metal clasp lid, and a few treats are scattered in front of it. The background is soft and out of focus. Text at the bottom reads "Happy Happy Nester.

And here’s one last tip, inspired by an Instagram follower who ran into this exact situation while making my peanut butter dog treats recipe!

How to Make Peanut Butter Dog Treats Without a Food Processor

Yes, you can use a blender if you don’t have a food processor, but it tends to make the dough thicker and harder to blend evenly, especially with sticky ingredients like bananas and peanut butter.

Here are a few tips to fix that thick dough:

Add a splash of water or a little more mashed banana to loosen it up. Start with a teaspoon at a time until it blends smoothly.

Pulse, don’t blend continuously – this helps keep the motor from overheating and gives the blender a chance to work through the mixture.

Stop and scrape down the sides often to make sure everything gets incorporated evenly.

Use a spatula to finish mixing by hand if the blender struggles with the final texture.

A food processor is ideal, but with a little patience, a blender can definitely get the job done!

A fluffy dog sits next to a stuffed penguin toy. In front of them is a glass jar labeled "Maisy's Treats," filled with delightful peanut butter dog treats. The pup, sporting a collar with a small tag, basks in the light-colored background.

I hope you get a chance to try this tasty peanut butter dog treats recipe—Maisy gives it two paws up and a happy tail wag!

Cheers,
