I’m all about decorated pumpkins; I’ve made a few this year, and one more is on the way! For this one, I used dried flowers from some of my recent farmers’ market bouquets. I’m obsessed with strawflowers, so I knew I had to use them in a fun project.
Pumpkins are perfect for showing off flowers, whether you hollow them out as a vase or attach succulents or flowers to the outside.
This project turned out beautifully, and the best part? It only takes a few minutes to put together! I went with pink and white flowers and even snagged some pepperberries from my neighbor’s tree. But you can choose whatever colors and styles you love for your pumpkin creation!

How to Create a Stunning Pumpkin DIY Centerpiece
Creating a stunning pumpkin DIY centerpiece is super easy and fun! Pick a pumpkin and attach your favorite flowers or dried elements to the outside. Play around with different colors and textures to match your fall decor, and you’ll have a beautiful centerpiece in no time. Before diving into your project, Let’s look at a few things to consider.
Choosing the Best Pumpkins for Your Flower Arrangement
Buy an Unblemished Pumpkin:
When choosing the best pumpkin for your flowers and pumpkin DIY, opt for a sturdy, unblemished pumpkin that can support the weight of the floral arrangement.
Pumpkin Color:
When picking the perfect pumpkin for your flower arrangement, consider the color that will make your flowers pop. Classic orange pumpkins bring that cozy fall vibe, while white pumpkins give you a clean, elegant look that lets the flowers stand out. You can even get creative with heirloom pumpkins in cool shades like green, blue, or blush for something a little more unique. Choosing a pumpkin color that fits your style or decor will tie everything together and make your arrangement look amazing!
Pumpkin Size:
If you create a vase with your pumpkin, you can choose a variety of fresh or faux flowers. For this pumpkin, DIY faux and dried flowers are your best options. I love the look of dried flowers, and since I had a bunch of pretty strawflowers, I decorated the pumpkin with them.
The size of the pumpkin will determine the size of the flowers. I had a medium to small white pumpkin, and the flowers were proportionally perfect for it. You don’t want too small flowers that they get lost in the mix, but you don’t want them too big that they overpower your composition.
The Best Flowers to Pair with Pumpkins for a Seasonal Touch:
Since it’s fall, use seasonal flowers like these listed.

- Dried Sunflowers – Perfect for a warm, rustic look

- Dried Wheat Stalks – Offers a natural, harvest vibe

How to Decorate Your Pumpkin
Step 1 – Preparing Your Pumpkin
Wash and dry your pumpkin.
Step 2 – Gather Flowers
Gather your flowers and remove the stems.
Step 3 – Plan Flower Arrangement
I planned to have the pepper berries organically spill over the pumpkin beyond the flowers. So I planned to secure those first on my pumpkin.
Step 4 – Glue Down Flowers
Like I said, I glued down the pepper berries first. I left room at the top and in the middle for the dried flowers. I spread them out along the sides of the pumpkin in the evening.
Next, I started at the top near the base of the stem and glued down the flowers. I kept an organic line where they ended since I didn’t want a shape edge.
I inserted extra leaves and pepperberries wherever they were needed.
