I’ve made sun tea for most of my life, and we love the smooth flavor. We love to pour it on ice, but if you like sweet tea, you can add some sugar.
Over the years, I’ve collected some fun summer drinks. Here’s a list of some thirst-quenching yummy beverages.
Ok, you’re here to learn how to make sun tea! I think you’ll be surprised and delighted to hear that it’s super easy to make. All you need are a few ingredients, and you’ll enjoy this yummy summer beverage.
How to Make Sun Tea
While growing up in California, my friends introduced me to sun tea. I’ve been making this drink ever since, and my husband and I love the taste.
A Few Questions You May Have
- Is there a difference between steeping the tea indoors and in the sun? I tell you that I’ve made ice tea both ways, and I don’t taste the difference. So, if you have a cloudy day and can’t let it steep outside on a hot summer day, then let it steep on your kitchen counter.
- Can I use a plastic container to make the tea? I prefer glass since plastic can leach into the water.
- Can I add sugar to my tea? Yes, you can add sugar to your tea after it steeps.
Ingredients You’ll Need For Sun Tea
Glass Container (I have a three-quart jar)
8 Tea Bags (I love this brand of tea)
Cold Filtered Water
Sliced Fresh Fruit (optional)
Directions For Sun Tea
Step 1 – Pour filtered water into a clean glass jar.
Step 2 – Place tea bags in the jar of water and cover with a lid.
Step 3 – Set the glass container in a sunny spot in your garden. Let the tea steep for 30 minutes to a couple of hours.
The steeping time varies depending on how strong a tea you like and how hot a day it is.
Things to Add to Your Tea
- Sliced Fruit – I placed a few sliced fruits in this sun tea. This step is optional.
- Sugar – If you like sweet tea, add sugar, honey, stevia, and maple or agave syrup. Add your sugar to the tea after it’s steeped and before adding ice.
- Mint – Add fresh mint or peppermint if you like.
