Christmas Tree Charcuterie Board
This is a fabulous little appetizer with a fun look. It’s easy to create and delicious to nibble on. Make it for a party or for your family.
Let’s take a look at how to build this tree-shaped charcuterie board!
Let’s Talk About Charcuterie Boards
I have a post on the best charcuterie boards if you want to take a peek! You have a few options when choosing your board. Let’s take a look at a few.
Wood: You can use a round or rectangular-shaped wood charcuterie board. You can use a board mainly for charcuteries or a cutting board like I have here.
Marble: If you use marble, you must decide if you’ll protect it from stains. You can place the food on the marble if you don’t care. But, if you don’t want stains, place some parchment paper down before putting your food on the board.
Savory or Sweet?
Before you take a trip to the store to buy the ingredients for your charcuterie, decide if you want a sweet or savory board. Is your board going to be an appetizer or dessert board? Or maybe you want both.
Your decision will determine what type of foods to purchase and use.
How to Create a Christmas Tree Shape
A Christmas tree is naturally smaller at the top and broader at the bottom. So, make sure to replicate this form. You can outline a tree using string, so you know exactly how long each section should be.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Round Up Your Fruit
I love adding fruit to all my boards. For this holiday board, I placed blueberries, grapes, and blackberries.
Let’s Add Cheese
I bought a lovely Seattle cheese from the company Beecher’s homemade cheese. Here are the cheeses that my family loves!
Nuts
A charcuterie board would not be complete without a fun variety of nuts. Here’s a list of nuts that my family enjoys grazing on.
- Almonds
- Pistachios
- Cashews
- Peanuts
Crackers
I love the Fig Raincoast Crisps, but they can be expensive. I did find them on sale at Whole Foods the other day. These crackers have a gourmet taste that is so nice, with cheese, crackers, and fruit.
And for the tree trunk, I used the delicious cheese bread sticks. They are yummy and so cool looking for this tree-themed board.
Candies
My family loves chocolate-covered almonds. They are a somewhat healthy snack since an almond is in the middle. But you can use whatever candies your family loves.
Meats
As you probably can tell, I’m not much into salamis or prosciutto. But if you like those meats, mold them into a rose shape and place them throughout the tree.
Assembling Your Charcuterie Board
- Start at the Bottom – It doesn’t matter where you begin assembling your tree. I started at the bottom and worked my way up.
- Make the Trunk – I used cheesy breadsticks for the base. I’ve seen others use pretzels as well.
- Layer the Items and Create a Pattern – I made a pattern with the food and placed them vertically to the tree. I feel that the food pattern has an excellent presentation.
- Make Cheese Stars – I cut sheets of cheese about a 1/2″ or less in width. Then I took a small star cookie cutter and made some cheese stars.
- Use Rosemary Sprigs for Tree Boughs – I placed my rosemary in between the layers and put the cheese star under the rosemary. I wanted them to look like the stars were ornaments.
- Make Hummus Pinecones – You can use soft goat cheese or hummus for this project. Mound the hummus into a rounded diamond shape. Place sliced almonds in the hummus. Pattern the almonds to look like the cone scales of a pinecone.
