Every now and then, I’ll treat myself to a Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. Yup, I splurge on coffee drinks. But, most days, if I want a little treat that is beyond black coffee I’ll make it at home.
So when I was making my coffee with creamer the other day, the idea of incorporating ice cream crossed my mind, and I stopped dead in my tracks. Oh, what a splendid combination it would be – the rich darkness of coffee with the luscious creaminess of ice cream. Coffee With Ice Cream Instructions:
This recipe makes two glasses that are 11 ounces each.
Step 1 – Make Coffee
You can make a carafe of freshly brewed coffee, or you can make instant coffee or espresso. Let the coffee cool in the fridge. If you don’t want to wait for the coffee to cool, add some ice to it and drain off any until melt ice before making your drink.
Step 2 – Froth Milk
I frothed whole milk in a Pyrex measuring cup. I used a handheld frother. Whip it for a minute or two, and it will double in size.

Frothing Milk Tips
Not all milk is created equal when it comes to frothing.
So, if you have milk that doesn’t froth, just add it directly to your coffee. In the end, it’s best to experiment with the milk choices firsthand. I gave Nutpod, which contains coconut milk and almond, a try, but unfortunately, it didn’t froth at all.
Also, when I frothed my whole milk for the first time, it was perfect! But the second time around, when I tried to froth the leftovers, it just didn’t work out.
When it comes to frothing milk, the milk fat content really matters. You see, milk fat plays a super important role in getting that stable and creamy froth when you steam or froth the milk.
Here is the list of which milk froths nicely:
- Whole Milk: This classic dairy milk contains enough fat to create a creamy and stable froth.
- 2% or 1% Milk: These reduced-fat options can still produce a decent froth.
- Skim Milk: While it may not be as creamy, it can still froth to some extent.
- Half-and-Half: This mixture of milk and cream froths well and provides a richer texture.
- Oat Milk: Known for its creamy consistency, it froths beautifully and is a popular dairy-free option.
- Almond Milk: Almond milk can froth nicely, especially if it’s a barista-style blend designed for frothing.
- Soy Milk: Some soy milk varieties froth well, particularly those with added stabilizers.
- Coconut Milk: Canned coconut milk, with its higher fat content, is great for frothing and adds a rich tropical flavor.
- Cashew Milk: Cashew milk can froth nicely due to its higher fat content, giving a creamy texture.
- Macadamia Milk: This nut milk froths well, similar to almond and oat milk, and has a slightly sweet taste.
- Keep in mind that the frothiness may vary depending on the brand and formulation of the milk or milk alternative, so it’s always good to try a few options to find the one that suits your taste and frothing preferences best.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! It adds a creaminess while also providing coldness to your drink.
It’s called a coffee milkshake!
An Aussie iced coffee drink is a popular Australian beverage made with a shot of espresso, ice cream, or vanilla ice cream, and chilled milk, typically served over ice. It’s a creamy and indulgent coffee concoction, perfect for warm summer days.
No, iced coffee is not just hot coffee with ice. It’s a specially prepared cold coffee beverage made using chilled coffee, often brewed stronger than regular coffee, and then served over ice with milk or other additions like sweeteners and flavorings.
Cold brew is a coffee brewing method where coffee grounds are steeped in cold water for an extended period, typically 12 to 24 hours, resulting in a smooth and less acidic concentrate that is later diluted with water or milk before serving. On the other hand, iced coffee is traditionally brewed hot and then cooled down by pouring it over ice, and it can be served with milk or ice cream, offering a different flavor profile compared to cold brew.
The strength of iced coffee and hot coffee can vary depending on factors like brewing method, coffee-to-water ratio, and personal preferences, so there is no definitive answer to whether iced coffee is always stronger than hot coffee.
Not at all! In fact, I’m not one to blend my coffee drinks, and I bug my daughter with this habit!
You most definitely can make the coffee in advance, but hold off on making the whole coffee drink. Make the drink right before serving since the ice cream will melt.
The only time you might add ice to this drink is to cool down your strong brewed coffee. Ice will water down the drink’s flavor. Otherwise, ice cream is added for its coldness.
