If you haven’t tried a Cranberry Grilled Cheese Sandwich, you must make it now! I had no idea that this version of grilled cheese could be so delicious. Use either Brie or mozzarella cheese to create this sandwich. If you have a little leftover cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving, you’ll have to make this for a holiday lunch.
Grilled cheese is my favorite sandwich for lunches. Cranberry sauce, along with buttery sourdough bread slices, elevates it to another level.

One of my favorite places to grab a sandwich while visiting San Francisco was a shop called Cowgirl Creamery. They featured sandwiches primarily and had a special grilled cheese sandwich every day.
Whenever we visited the Ferry Building in San Francisco, I ordered a sandwich from this popular lunch spot. One day, I bought their cranberry grilled cheese sandwich and was in for a surprise. This sandwich was the best-grilled cheese I had ever eaten. It was creamy, dreamy, and sweet with cranberry sauce!
I knew that I had to try making this sandwich at home!

What Kind of Cheese to Use
Before diving into how to make this sandwich, let’s discuss the cheese selection. Ultimately, a mellow white cheese works best. I’m sure the Cowgirl Creamery used their famous Brie cheese in this holiday sandwich. But if you want to try another version, I like mozzarella cheese. It’s a mellow flavored cheese and soft and stringy like Brie.
I like the mellowness of mozzarella since it doesn’t overpower the cranberry sauce. It combines so beautifully with the tart sweetness of the sauce.
Ingredients You’ll Need for the Sandwich

How To Make Your Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Step 1 – Butter The Bread
Liberally butter each slice of your sourdough bread. Heat your pan or skillet.
Step 2 – Place Bread in Pan
Place your bread in the pan with the butter side down. Place a layer of cheese, cranberry sauce, and another layer of cheese on one slice. When the cheese melts, top it with the other slice of bread.
Flip the sandwich to brown evenly and melt the cheese. Cook until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted.
