rooms that inspire me…
don’t you adore this room?! i found it on houzz and i love the light blue and grey accents and it’s light and airy feel. i would like this type of style in my house. so yes, i’m starting to rethink our living room colors and possibly our furniture too.
i’m always redecorating our home, and probably my family thinks i’m crazy. when we remodeled a couple years ago, i had chosen all the paint colors for our four rooms and our painter did his job beautifully. unfortunately, i wasn’t happy with any of the colors that i chose, so i quickly picked new colors and i repainted my kitchen, living room, dining room, family room and hallway. i’m pretty certain you could label my personality as obsessive compulsive, at least my husband strongly believes that i am! anyway, when the painter came back to our job… i think i nearly gave him a heart attack! he did finally get over the initial shock, but i’m sure he thought i was a little insane changing all the colors! well, three years later, i still like the colors in the rooms, except for the living room and our entry way. the color is a shade of a dark mocha and it feels heavy and appears like something you would find in a coffee shop. i guess i could blame it on our 17 years living in the rainy pacific northwest. but, now i’m totally into a lighter color palate and so i am contemplating our living room look and color. in addition our sofa is pretty uncomfortable and really not blending well in this house, it feels outdated. so i have my eyes on craigslist for a pottery barn white slipcover sofa. one of the colors i’m considering for the walls and the decor is white or maybe light or medium blue. i’m not totally convinced by which color to use. so my research continues, but in the meantime i’ll share with you my current thoughts and inspirations. i’m excited that i did have a design epiphany, i do like the hampton style of design. it feels like a style that is in sync with a california lifestyle! i guess who doesn’t like the decor and homes in this area!

so here is what our living room looks like. this is an old photo and i have done a few changes, but the basic furniture still remains in the room. my husband is concerned that whatever color i put on the walls that it allows for the white woodwork to stand out. so that is why i ended up going with the darker color. i’m not sure if the white walls may have trouble showing off the white woodwork but maybe it would just make everything crisp and light. do you see how the sofa is outdated, bulky, and dark. i subconsciously felt for the last three years that this room wasn’t what i wanted so, i was reluctant to buy drapes for the windows. so as you can see in the photo this room feels pretty naked at the moment.
these colors are kind of happening in my master bedroom. i could repeat these colors… but i am worried that the adjoining dining room grey wall might not coordinate with the light blue. but i could instead use the grey and tan together as alternative, hmm…
i could go with this dark blue grey and this might compliment the light grey in the dining room and kitchen. but i’m kind of afraid of the darker color, i’m really into rooms that are light and fresh.
this does have a dark blue accent wall, but the furnishings and the other white walls balance it into a bright cheerful room. well, i have a lot to think about and i have more time to work on it. i’m not in a terrible hurry, but i would like to start the process since our mantle now has a huge empty space where we switched out our picture to another room.
this is the like the color that we currently have on the walls, but i’m intrigued by the look and the soft furnishings.
here are my thrift shop lamps and i need to make some shades since i don’t like any of the ones in the stores. so i haven’t made them since i really want to rethink the whole living room look. do you see a cycle here where everything hinges on another thing, so nothing gets done? or maybe it is a long process that secretly i enjoy… oh yes, that is me in the lamp reflection with my trusty iphone camera! :o)
