Tips

The weeks go by so quickly, and it’s Tuesday once again. I hope you liked my first Tuesday tip last week and this new weekly post. I have fallen in love with the S’well bottles and how cold they keep the water, so now I must hint to my family that it would make a nice birthday present. But, on to today’s tip; it is a small kitchen appliance that I’m not sure how we have lived without it for so long.

~ A Note about the Nester ~
When I first met my husband he was renting a house with three of his friends. He was a bachelor in many ways, and he made most of their meals in a small toaster oven. I was amazed how many things he cooked in it!

As you have guessed my tip for today involves a toaster oven and how our family uses this small appliance just like my husband did in his bachelor days! For years, we had a little conventional toaster that stopped working many times, and somehow I was able to fix it. Finally, it officially stopped working about three months ago, and my husband had a mini celebration with our kids! Well, instead of replacing it with another toaster, I decided to take the plunge and buy a toaster oven. My brother owns a Breville, and he is incredibly thorough on researching everything he buys. So, I listened to his advice, and we are now the proud owners of a Breville Toaster Oven. We have found that we use it for practically everything. It not only toasts bread but warms up food beautifully. And the surprising thing is that it is cooks food quicker than our oven since it has a significantly smaller area to heat up. Also, have you noticed that microwaves will heat up a pizza quickly, but it zaps all the moist out of it, and it turns hard and tough to eat. The toaster oven bakes things and keeps food moist like a conventional oven.

The Breville Toaster Oven that we own has three levels for the rack; top is for broiling, the middle is for toast, and the bottom is for baking. Also, the oven has words inscribed on the oven, so you know which setting you will need for whatever you are cooking. The oven is pretty intuitive and easy to use.

The clean up is quick and easy since the bottom tray slides out. Just a little soap and water and it’s cleaned. No scary bottom that holds all the old food crumbs that I saw with my husband’s oven! Do you remember how nasty the bottom was on those old toaster ovens?

Just the other day, my husband and I realized that our Breville oven is one of the top appliances that we use the most in our kitchen! I’m very pleased with our purchase, and I hope this helps you if you were thinking of buying this excellent appliance.

Cheers,

Funny thing: when I go on holidays, this it's an essential appliance for my kids (all of them over 18). I only bought a cheap one from walmart a $20 dollar investment but they just: love it!

      Ruth,
Thanks so much for your visit and comment. Yes, I love toaster ovens, they are such a handy appliance. So happy to hear that your kids have them too! They are so lucky that you buy them one. I saw on Pinterest the other day, someone turned their toaster on it's side to make it like a toaster oven! Gotta love it! Have a wonderful day!

I love the toaster oven, esp in the summer when it's 103 outside and I'm itching to bake.

      Hi Colette,
Yes, it totally comes in handy when you don't want to heat up your whole house! We used it ton during Thanksgiving, darn, I wish we had a second oven like our last home. Thanks for the visit, sweet friend!

Have you seen the retro-looking blue one from KitchenAid KCO275AQ? It's on my wishlist!

Hi! My husband used to use a toaster oven in his bachelor days, too, so now, we always have one! We use our toaster oven almost daily for heating up food, etc. It's perfect for reheating pizza or making small batches of cookies! We've never had a Breville. I will have to try that next! We usually buy cheap toaster ovens, and I've had 3 of them within the past 12 years!

Love your comment and thank so much, I appreciate the comment and your visit! Yes, I'm falling in love with our toaster oven. We fought buying for the longest time, I think I was worried that it would take up too much counter space. But, now I'm thinking that I wasted all those years not having one! I like the Breville and the different rack levels are nice. My brother returned one after like 3 years and they replaced it! But, I think any toaster oven is going to be efficient and serve it's purpose nicely! Have a lovely day!
