Before we dive into how to make these baked treats, let’s review a few pieces of equipment you’ll need for this recipe.
I did add the dough without pipping, and I had a bit of a mess. So, my answer to this question is that yes, you need to pipe the dough. If you don’t have a pastry bag, use a Ziploc bag and cut a hole in one of the corners.
This pan is quite lovely, and the donuts come out in perfect-shaped donuts. Also, I love how the donuts pop out so easily, which is convenient. I only own two Teflon pans, and I guess I must admit I like this one.
Let’s make the donuts!
Step 1 – Make the Batter
Preheat oven to 475 degrees.
Cream together sugar, shortening, and egg. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir into the sugar mixture, alternating with the milk. Make about a ½ inch hole on the tip of my pastry bag. Next, place the pastry bag inside a tall drinking glass and fold the top over the sides of the glass.
Fill the bag with the batter.
Step 2 – Fill Mold
Fill the heart-shaped mold with one row of batter.
Step 3 – Bake Donuts
Bake donuts for about 10 minutes and place on a cooling rack.
Step 4 – Make Icing
In a medium-sized bowl, add ingredients together.
If the icing is too thick, add more cream. If it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar. With a spoon, blend icing. Use the back of the spoon to break up any clumps of sugar.
Add 2-3 drops of red food coloring if you want pink icing.
Step 5 – Coat Donuts with Icing
Dip cooled donuts in the icing and place back on the rack with icing side up. Sprinkle sugar candies.
