Ingredients You’ll Need For Easter Chocolate Bark

  • Graham Crackers (crust): The graham crackers provide a crunchy and slightly sweet base, contrasting the creamy white chocolate and colorful toppings.
  • Brown Sugar (crust): Brown sugar lends a rich, caramel-like flavor to the crust, enhancing its sweetness and depth.
  • Butter (crust): The butter binds the graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar together, creating a firm, buttery foundation for the bark.
  • White Chocolate Candy Melts: The white chocolate candy melts to provide a smooth and creamy texture to the bark, acting as the perfect canvas for vibrant Easter colors and decorations.
  • Food Dye: The food dye adds a pop of bright and playful colors to the bark, making it visually appealing and festive for Easter celebrations.
  • Easter Candy for the topping: The Easter candy toppings bring flavor and texture to the bark, adding whimsy and charm reminiscent of Easter egg hunts and sweet treats.

Here’s How to Melt White Chocolate

Step 1 – Place Chocolate in a Microwaveable Bowl

Step 2 – Microwave

Now, here is the essential part of the instructions. Add a tablespoon of shortening to every 7 – 8 ounces of chocolate. Incorporating a small amount of vegetable shortening into the chocolates before melting helps them achieve a smoother consistency and prevents them from seizing in the microwave.

Step 3 – Cook in 30 Second Intervals

It helps to have the patience for this part.

Cook for 30 seconds, and then take out and stir the chocolate. It took a long time for my chocolate to warm, but I was determined not to overcook it. And if you take your time, the chocolate comes out perfect!

Step 4 – How to Tell When It is Ready

Once your chocolate is half melted, stir it really well. Then, put it back in the microwave for about 15 seconds.

This is important! It is ready if you still have a few small pieces of chocolate. When you stir the chocolate, the heat will melt the small pieces. So stir until it is smooth and melted.

If you want to color your chocolate, add some drops of food dye at this stage.

Step 5 – Don’t Overcook!

Don’t overcook the chocolate. When the chocolate is overcooked, it will become a hard consistency, and there is no turning back. The package did say not to add water to make it smooth. But if you must add some liquid, a couple of teaspoons of cooking oil or more shortening is ok. I had it ready but never had to use the extra oil.

How to Make White Chocolate Bark

Step 1 – Preheat Oven

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 – Prep Baking Sheet

Line an 11 x 15-inch cookie sheet (with rim) with parchment paper.

A hand uses a spoon to drizzle syrup over a large sheet of matzo placed on a baking tray. The matzo is scored into a grid pattern. In the background, there is a small bowl containing colorful gummy candies.

Step 3 – Arrange Graham Crackers

Arrange the graham crackers in a single layer. Each cracker should fit side by side with the others. Break the crackers in half to fit the whole baking sheet. Set aside.

Step 4 – Make Caramel

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until melted. Add the brown sugar and stir. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches a boil, stirring constantly.

Once it reaches a boil, keep stirring for 2 more minutes.

Remove from heat and pour over the graham crackers. Use a rubber spatula or spoon to spread the toffee evenly over the crackers.

Step 5 – Bake

Bake in the oven for 6-10 minutes or until the caramel is all bubbly. The toffee needs to be bubby to get the right consistency.

Step 6 – Melt White Chocolate

Step 7 – Decorate Bark with Candies

While the white chocolate is warm, quickly add candies and sprinkles before it hardens. Once it cools and hardens, cut the bark into pieces and serve.

Incorporating a small amount of vegetable shortening into the chocolates before melting helps them achieve a smoother consistency and prevents them from seizing in the microwave.

  • When the chocolate mixture is half melted, you're getting close to done.

  • Smooth white chocolate with a rubber spatula or the back of a spoon.
  • Add candies to the chocolate before it sets up.
