a deeper look into my kitchen drawers…
effective utensils are so important in making life easy in the kitchen. i’m going to let you in on some of my secret cooking utensils. i know you probably have some favorite kitchen tools too, so i would to hear from you, really! so, i’ve collected a few of my tools that i just can’t live without, they just make cooking and so much easier. why struggle with the inferior utensil when you can have a more effective one. i need to soon make that true of our cooking knives! oh gosh, that’s my next mission.
~ a funny note about the nester ~
my friend once asked me if i was a person who tackles things
with a “list” or a “mission?” what are you? i’m a mission type of person,
i think i spent about a year trying to find
the perfect hybrid of a tong/spatula! crazy, huh?

here they are. these are a few of my favorite things… in the kitchen!
an essential. garlic presses are not created equal!
the reason why i like it: this is a great press since clean up is so easy! garlic press
cleaning. the whole press opens up and you can quickly remove the leftovers with one big sweep. no more poking the holes to get the garlic out! here is the link: garlic press
ultimate pizza slicer.
the reason why i like this: blade stays sharp.
one of my dear friends gave me this cute pizza cuter. not only is it cute but it effective cuts pizza slices. no more cutting the piece going over and over the same spot. this cutter does it in one cut! here is the link: pizza cutter
at work. it must be sharp but so far, i haven’t cut myself on it. here’s the link: cool pizza cutter
cutco.
the reason why i like this: it stays sharp forever, and ever!
we sat through a long sales presentation with a college kid who was trying to sell cutco products. we didn’t want to spend a ton of money, but we felt we should buy something from him. at the time we had a cheap pair that we were in love with, but we ended up buying this cutco pair to try and help him out. i think we paid something like $80 for it. as it turned out, it has been the most incredible scissors i have ever owned. the thing can cut wire, sheets of aluminum, my rose branches and much more. the great thing is that it is as sharp as the day we bought them! if you want to make the investment, here is the link: cutco
many uses! i used the scissors to cut a ton of things. since we don’t have any sharp knives. it comes in quite handy! here is the link: scissors
the best spatula!
the reason i like this: is it is just down right cool!
really peeps, this is such an amazing tool. we rent a montana cabin every summer and this utensil is in the kitchen. i have never seen anything like it, note how the top has several tongs that holds the food in place. the bottom is a spatula. so clever and effective, too bad i can’t find this tool in the stores.
many tasks. the cool thing about this tool is that it works beautifully on french fries. magically when you go to scoop them off the tray none of them fall out of it’s grasp.
my match. here is the tool i finally found that is almost the same. it is made by rosle. here is the link: spatula
i would love to hear from you, what’s your favorite utensils. i hope i have introduced you to some new kitchen tools and that you can eventually add them to your collection. happy cooking, baking, and thanks for following me and stopping by!
as always, comments are welcome. if you would like to share with me your favorite kitchen utensil, i would love to hear from you!
cheers,
janine

Jaybird
I just found your blog today…it's great and I have enjoyed reading!
I am on a mission to find a GREAT hand held can opener….can you give me any recommendations??? We have been looking for one for several years :^( We live in an old house and electric outlets are hard to come by, so electric can openers are not for us.
Many thanks for any info!
Blessings,
J

Hi Jaybird ~ I'm glad you found me! In regards to can openers, I have a few manual ones, you probably saw them in my drawer. I have the Kuhn Rikon which opens the top and you don't have any sharp edges. When it was new it was awesome, mine is now something like 10 years old and it has a hard time getting through the gummy seal that cans have. I just recently bought a Rosle (the one that is all stainless steel) and it works the same as the Kuhn Rikon, and it is awesome. It is rather expensive, $50. I love all their products, they are high quality. Then, I have an OXO and it is the traditional type of can opener that opens the lid with sharp edges. This one is like 5 years old and still works beautifully! It is definitely cheaper than the other two. I hope this helps! If you don't mind me asking, how did you find me? I'm always curious! Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.
