So, grab your Ninja Creami ice cream maker, and let’s make some delicious dairy-free chocolate ice cream together!

a scoop of dairy free ice cream

This chocolate ice cream recipe is wonderfully simple, requiring just six ingredients. You have the flexibility to make it either dairy-free or the traditional way. Plus, I’ll share a bunch of fun mix-ins you can toss to customize your creamy creation to your liking!

Why Dairy Free Ice Cream

Many people are actually allergic to milk, which means their bodies react to the proteins in cow’s milk. This can cause anything from a little stomach upset to serious allergic reactions, so they must be careful about what they eat and drink.

My husband avoids dairy that hasn’t been baked or cooked. He opts for almond milk and typically chooses ice cream made from coconut milk or soy. We’ve often talked about me trying to make dairy-free ice cream at home.

My husband has been lactose intolerant his whole life, but it took him years to finally figure that out. So he gave up ice cream until a few years ago when brands started making a dairy-free option.

I’m constantly searching for homemade versions of the foods we usually buy. And recently, I saw someone make some delicious-looking ice cream on TikTok and got inspired. I decided to buy the Ninja Creami machine they used and try it out for myself.

Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker

  • Versatility: The Ninja Creami isn’t just for ice cream; it can make sorbets, milkshakes, and frozen cocktails. This flexibility allows you to experiment with a wide range of frozen treats from one machine.
  • Customizable Consistency: With its various settings, you can choose precisely how creamy or firm you want your dessert to be. Whether you prefer a soft serve or a denser, scoopable ice cream, the Ninja Creami caters to all textures.
  • Speed: You can go from ingredients to ice cream in minutes. This quick turnaround is perfect for last-minute dessert ideas or spontaneous ice cream cravings.
  • Ease of Use: The Ninja Creami is user-friendly, with simple controls and an intuitive design that makes it easy for anyone to operate. It’s a great choice for those who want hassle-free ice cream making at home.
  • Healthier Options: You can control the ingredients, making it easier to create healthier versions of your favorite frozen desserts, free from additives and excessive sugars in commercial products. This is particularly beneficial for those with dietary restrictions.

Ninja Ice Cream Creami Maker Dairy Free Option

To use the Ninja Creami ice cream maker, mix your ingredients and pour them into the provided pint container. Then, make sure to freeze it solid for 24 hours. Then, place it in the machine and select your desired program to churn it into creamy ice cream.

It really is that simple to use. The machine has numerous recipes, including dairy-free alternatives that swap out traditional milk and cream.

So, whenever the recipe specifies cream, opt for coconut cream and substitute oat milk for the milk.

Some recipes call for cream cheese, so use dairy-free cream cheese.

And that’s all there is to it! Making homemade ice cream is that straightforward. The toughest part is definitely the wait—letting the mixture freeze solid for 24 hours!

Dairy-Free Ice Cream Recipe

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Cream Cheese: Adds a rich, creamy texture and slight tanginess that enhances the overall flavor of your ice cream.
  • Cocoa Powder: Provides a deep, chocolatey flavor, making it essential for crafting a rich chocolate ice cream.
  • Sugar: Sweetens the ice cream and helps lower the freezing point, giving a smoother texture.
  • Vanilla Extract: Infuses the ice cream with a warm, classic vanilla flavor that complements any additional mix-ins.
  • Coconut Cream: Offers a thick, creamy base that is perfect for dairy-free recipes, adding a subtle coconut flavor.
  • Oatmilk: A great dairy-free alternative that contributes to the ice cream’s creamy texture without overpowering other flavors.

Instructions:

Step 1 – Microwave Cream Cheese

Step 2 – Add The Remaining Ingredients

Slowly mix the coconut cream and oat milk until fully combined and the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a Ninja pint container, cover, and freeze for 24 hours.

  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 70 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 180 ml coconut cream
  • 240 ml Oatmilk I use the extra creamy oatmilk

Twist the handle to the right to raise the platform and lock the bowl in place. You will hear a click when it is locked.
  • Press the machine's power button, then select the program, Ice Cream. The machine will run for a couple of minutes and stop when completed.
  • Once it's done, remove the bowl by pressing the quick-release button on the left side of the machine. If your ice cream is crumbly or powdery and not smooth, add some more oat milk and re-spin.
