Calling all pie fans, start baking the sweetest treats for those summer days with this collection of My Favorite Summer Pies. There’s nothing better than indulging in pies during the summer—a backyard BBQ, a family gathering, or simply a sunny afternoon craving. The season’s warmth calls for light, fruity, and refreshing flavors that perfectly complement the long, golden days. If you’re searching for pie recipes that bring the ideal balance of sweetness and seasonal freshness, you’re in the right place. There’s something about pairing a buttery, flaky crust with a juicy, fruit-filled center that evokes pure summer bliss. I love uncovering summer pie ideas that capture the essence of warm weather, fresh fruit, and flaky crusts. The aroma of a pie baking in the oven, filling the kitchen with scents of ripe berries, citrus, or even tropical flavors, makes any summer day feel special.

A collage of four delightful desserts: a luscious strawberry pie, my favorite summer apple tart with powdered sugar, a tray of sugar-dusted cookies, and a slice of lemon pie garnished with whipped cream.

The best summer pie recipes are ones that celebrate the season, bringing together bright flavors and delicious textures.

Whether it’s a refreshing citrus twist, a classic berry medley, or a unique flavor combination that surprises your taste buds, every bite should taste like sunshine.

Whether you’re preparing summer pie recipes for a crowd or a quiet evening treat, there’s something truly special about the tradition of baking in the summer.

Maybe it’s the way a homemade pie can instantly transport you to childhood memories of summer vacations, picnics in the park, or family gatherings filled with laughter.

Or maybe it’s just the simple pleasure of taking that first warm, buttery bite and savoring all the fresh, sweet flavors that make summer the most delicious season. By the way, I also added more than pies to the post for more baking inspiration!

Saturday Chitchat with Janine – Volume 210

Why I Love Baking Pies in the Summer

For me, summer is all about making memories in the kitchen. There’s something magical about rolling out dough, prepping fresh fruit, and waiting for that golden-brown crust to emerge from the oven.

The best part? That first slice—when the filling is still warm, the flavors are fresh, and the aroma fills the air.

Baking pies in the summer feels different from any other time of year. Maybe it’s the sunshine streaming through the windows, the abundance of fresh ingredients, or the pure nostalgia of homemade desserts.

No matter the reason, summer pies are simply irresistible.

The Perfect Treat for Warm Days

Summer pies are the ultimate dessert because they’re versatile, refreshing, and easy to share.

Whether you prefer classic flavors or something new and exciting, there’s a pie for every occasion.

They are perfect for picnics, barbecues, and relaxed weekend afternoons. I love how a good pie can unite people—nothing beats when everyone gathers, forks in hand, ready to dive into something homemade and delicious.

Why My Pies Are the Best for Summertime

My summer pies stand out because they’re made with love, fresh ingredients, and just the right balance of sweetness.

I believe in keeping things simple—letting the natural flavors shine while ensuring every bite is as comforting as it is satisfying.

The flaky crust, the juicy filling, and that perfect hint of spice or citrus make my pies a must-have treat for warm weather.

Every pie tells a story, and summer is the best time to create those sweet, unforgettable moments.

The Sweetest End to Summer Days

There’s no better way to celebrate summer than with a homemade pie.

Whether you’re enjoying a slice on the porch, at a summer party, or after a long day in the sun, pies are the perfect way to embrace the season.

A Personal Note from Janine

A cherry pie, one of my favorite summer pies, sits with star-shaped crust pieces in a silver tin. Surrounding it are cherries, a floral teacup, a plate, a pink and white checkered cloth, and white flowers on a light surface.

When I was a young girl, my mom promised we’d bake a cherry pie together on George Washington’s birthday—and I held onto that promise with all my heart. I remember sitting in school, completely fixated on getting home so we could bake. She made the big pie for the family, and I had my little one baked in a tiny tart pan just for me. That moment felt so special, and looking back now, it’s still one of my favorite childhood memories.

Funny how you don’t realize the significance of those small moments until years later. That simple afternoon of baking with my mom turned out to be a glimpse of what would shape my future. If she were still here, I know she’d be so proud (and probably a little amused) to see how much her influence has carried into my life.

So here’s to my mom, Amy, for sparking my love, drive, and passion for all things home and baking.

Wishing you a cozy Saturday—maybe bake a pie with love, just like we did. 🥧❤️

Cheers,

This Week’s Inspiration – My Favorite Summer Pies

A freshly baked lattice-topped blueberry pie, one of my favorite summer pies, sits on a wooden table surrounded by a bowl of brown sugar, scattered blueberries, a red apple, and a patterned kitchen towel. A rustic pie server lies nearby.

Apple Blueberry Pie Recipe

This Apple Blueberry Pie Recipe with caramel sauce offers a delightful blend of flavors and textures, making it a hit among dessert lovers. The surprise caramel adds a unique touch that elevates the traditional apple blueberry pie to a more indulgent and unforgettable treat.

A partially topped fruit tart with a creamy filling, reminiscent of my favorite summer pies, is adorned with fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and small mint leaves. A wooden spoon with a bit of filling rests nearby. A striped cloth adds a touch of color in the corner.

4th of July Fruit Tart

Here’s a fresh summer dessert recipe, the 4th of July Fruit Tart. It’s an easy recipe with a sugar cookie crust topped with a creamy citrus lemon curd that’s sweet, flavorful, and perfect for summer.

A slice of creamy lemon pie, one of my favorite summer pies, rests on a white plate adorned with whipped cream and a lemon slice. A gold spoon lies nearby on the white stand, while whole lemons and glowing white candles illuminate the backdrop.

The Best Lemon Sour Cream Pie

Today, I’m sharing the Best Lemon Sour Cream Pie recipe. This lemon pie has a rich, smooth lemon flavor similar to my favorite English Lemon Curd recipe. Of course, this homemade pie has sour cream, which mellows the sweetness and creates a luscious taste. The combination of sour cream and lemon makes the best pie filling.

A white dish filled with six of my favorite summer pies, baked to perfection and sprinkled with sugar, lines a sheet of white parchment. Scattered blueberries and a yellow-checkered cloth adorn the light wooden surface.

Blueberry Hand Pies Recipe

Blueberry Hand Pies are like the ultimate summer treat, no doubt about it! It’s an easy dessert that’s juicy, plump blueberries nestled in a flaky, buttery pie crust. They come in these adorable single servings that are just made for grab-and-go snacking.

A freshly baked strawberry pie, one of my favorite summer pies, sits on a table adorned with glistening strawberries. In the background, a bowl of strawberries accompanies a glass bottle with striped straws. A few strawberries are playfully scattered on a white cloth with red stitching.

Fresh Strawberry Pie Recipe

Now that summer has arrived, and there is a ton of fruit at the stores, a Fresh Strawberry Pie Recipe is essential! This easy dessert pie filling only takes a few minutes to make. Refrigerate the pie and serve once the glaze is firm. Your family will love this fruit pie!

A rectangular lemon pastry with creamy frosting zig-zag pattern sits on a white plate. Surrounded by whole lemons, lemon slices, and a small bowl of lemon glaze on a white surface, it evokes memories of my favorite summer pies.

Lemon Tart Puff Pastry

This Lemon Tart Puff Pastry is so easy to make. I love how it tastes like it was made in a fancy bakery. They key is to use a fresh homemade lemon curd.

A rustic peach galette, one of my favorite summer pies, features fresh peach slices on a flaky crust with a dusting of sugar. It rests on parchment paper, surrounded by whole peaches and a wooden spoon in the background.

Peach Galette Recipe

This Peach Galette Recipe is so simple to make and tastes delicious. I love that the fruit isn’t overwhelmed with a thick crust topped with a layer of turbinado sugar for a sweet, crunchy taste. If you’re cramped for time and want the flavor of a peach pie, then this is an excellent alternative.

A freshly baked apple tart, one of my favorite summer pies, boasts a golden, flaky crust with glazed apple slices in a rectangular pan. Surrounding the tart are whole apples and a bowl with apple slices, all on a light-colored tablecloth.

Puff Pastry Fruit Tart Custard

While visiting Paris, France, we ordered a Puff Pastry Fruit Tart with fantastic custard. The custard combined with apples topped with a cinnamon and nutmeg sauce is delicious and is a perfect fall dessert.

A baked apple pancake, reminiscent of my favorite summer pies, is dusted with powdered sugar in a white dish on a light checkered cloth. Nearby sit a white bowl with sugar and spoon, and a white pot holding three apples. The setting is bright and airy.

Apple Dutch Baby Recipe

If you’ve had The Original House of Pancake’s Apple Dutch Baby, then you’ll love this recipe. It’s an oven-baked pancake that’s easy to make, and you can serve it for breakfast, brunch, and dessert. It’s a light custard-like souffle topped with cinnamon and nutmeg-drenched apples.

Two lemon tarts, my favorite summer pies, topped with powdered sugar are placed on a table with a bowl of fresh lemons, lit candles in holders, and a blue-patterned plate. A checkered yellow cloth adds a warm touch to the rustic setting.

Mini Lemon Tarts

These Mini Lemon Tarts are a perfect mix of tangy citrus and sweet flavors. All wrapped up in a delicious buttery shortbread crust. The filling in these tartlets is made from my homemade English lemon curd recipe that goes perfectly with the buttery crust. It’s seriously delicious!

Latest Obsession – Mini Tart Pans

Four shiny, silver metal pie pans are arranged on a white background. Three pans are stacked within each other, ready to hold my favorite summer pies, while the fourth is placed upside down in the front, showing its bottom side.

Mini Tart Pans

Lately, I’ve been baking little egg tarts in these mini pans, and now I can’t stop thinking of more recipes to try! I love that they’re single-serving—perfect for entertaining. There’s no need to slice anything; just set them out, and they’re ready to enjoy!

This Week’s Tip – The Best Pie Canning Gel

A plastic container of Hoosier Hill Farm's Clear Jel Cook Type is shown, perfect for crafting my favorite summer pies. The label features a pie and blueberries, highlighting its use as a thickener for fillings, gravies, and sauces. The container holds 1.5 lbs (680 g).

Clear Jel

This product is my go-to for perfect pie fillings! If you want a filling that sets beautifully and doesn’t end up runny, you’ll love using this. It’s also fantastic for canning—my mom and I made big batches every summer when she visited. My kitchen would become a full-on canning station, and we’d even rope my dad into the fun! Those were such special times, filled with laughter, pie, and a little bit of chaos.

My Amazon Finds – Pies

A clear plastic container filled with small ceramic pie weights is perfect for baking my favorite summer pies. The packaging features a label that reads "Mrs. Anderson's Baking" and "Ceramic Pie Weights," highlighting their ability to prevent crust from bubbling.
A white ceramic pie dish with a fluted edge sits against a plain background, ready to cradle my favorite summer pies.
A pink silicone mold with various pastry shapes, including braids and ropes, is shown above a lattice-topped pie, perfect for crafting my favorite summer pies.
A red and white silicone baking mat with concentric circles marked in inches, perfect for crafting my favorite summer pies. It also includes a cups conversion chart and a ruler on the edges for precise measurements. At the center, the mat features a chef's logo with "MMKITCHEEN" text.
