Don’t forget to dive into the magic of holiday baking by trying My Favorite Christmas Cookies, creating your own festive batch! Christmas is coming up faster than a cooling rack fills up with fresh cookies, and I couldn’t be more excited. This time of year always brings out the baker in me, especially when I start thinking about all the festive cookie creations I want to perfect before the big day. There’s just something magical about pulling out my favorite recipes and watching the kitchen transform into a holiday haven of sugar, spice, and everything nice. The second the first batch goes into the oven, it’s like the whole house shifts into Christmas mode—warm, cozy, and filled with the sweetest anticipation.

A collage of my favorite Christmas cookies: knit hat-shaped treats, a wreath of snowflake cookies, a plate of golden snowflake cookies, and festive snow globe cookies topped with holiday designs.

The holiday music starts playing, the twinkling lights feel a little brighter, and suddenly baking doesn’t feel like a chore; it feels like tradition.

With every stir of the mixing bowl and every sprinkle of powdered sugar, I’m reminded why this season is my absolute favorite.

Saturday Chitchat with Janine – Volume 237

The Magic of Holiday Baking

There’s something uniquely special about baking during the holidays—something you can’t quite put into words.

Maybe it’s the glowing lights, the cheerful music, or the cozy vibes in the air, but baking feels different this time of year.

Butter softens a little easier, sprinkles shine a little brighter, and every batch feels like it’s sprinkled with a little Christmas magic.

Sharing Sweet Treats With Loved Ones

One of my favorite parts of holiday baking is sharing the final creations with the people I love.

Christmas cookies make the cutest and most thoughtful gifts. Handing someone a tin filled with homemade treats feels like gifting a little bite of holiday cheer.

And let’s be honest—no one ever turns down a cookie wrapped in festive ribbon.

A Personal Note from Janine

Oatmeal cookies shaped like bear faces, decorated with chocolate chips for eyes and noses, are cooling on parchment paper and a plate—these are truly my favorite Christmas cookies.
A snow-covered path winds through a forest of bare trees with branches coated in snow. Three people walk in the distance, surrounded by wintry scenery, reminding me of sharing my favorite Christmas cookies on chilly days like this.

I had so much fun in the kitchen with my great-nephew and niece—we made the cutest oatmeal bear cookies together! 🐻 Not only were they adorable, but they were soft, chewy, and absolutely delicious.

Baking has always been my favorite way to relax, even when I’m away from home. There’s just something so comforting about whipping up treats for your family, especially during the holidays. 💛

Next up—we’re heading to Seattle! And I’m already dreaming about more cookie-making sessions with my other great-nieces and nephews. I’ll probably pack a few cookie cutters in my suitcase just in case 😉

I hope you can carve out a little time this December to bake something sweet for the people you love. Whether it’s a fancy dessert or a batch of cozy cookies, it’s such a joyful way to spread holiday cheer. ✨

Happy Baking!

This Week’s Inspiration – My Favorite Christmas Cookies

Three decorated sugar cookies shaped like winter hats, with yellow tops, red and green brims, and tiny pom-poms, are displayed on a white stand. Festive holiday decorations and candy canes surround my favorite Christmas cookies in the background.

Molded Cookies

Molded Cookies Recipe fans will love this charming winter toque hat cookie that holds every little detail from the mold. These cozy, cold-weather–inspired cookies bake up beautifully with crisp edges, clean lines, and that sweet handmade charm we all adore during the holiday season.

Whether you’re gifting them, decorating them, or simply enjoying a festive baking day, this molded cookie dough makes it easy to get a perfect release and a picture-worthy design every time.

Three chocolate sandwich cookies with red and green cream filling, my favorite Christmas cookies, are displayed on a white cake stand. Each cookie has a festive snowflake design on top.

Oreo Cookies Recipe

If you’re craving a classic treat, this Oreo Cookie Recipe will help you recreate those beloved cookies in your kitchen.

These homemade cookies feature rich, chocolatey wafers and a creamy filling that tastes like the original.

Whether you’re a fan of classic Oreo flavors or want to experiment with variations like mint or double-stuffed, this recipe will surely be your new favorite!

A festive treat, this could easily be one of my favorite Christmas cookies—topped with white frosting, pearl sprinkles, and Santa decorations, displayed under a clear dome on a white cake stand. Similar cookies are blurred in the background.

Snow Globe Cookies

These Snow Globe Cookies are the perfect mix of cute, creative, and delicious! They start with a simple almond cookie base and use a clear plastic half-ornament to create that magical snow globe look.

While you can’t shake them like an actual snow globe, they’re just as charming and way more fun to eat!

Chocolate cakes shaped like Christmas trees are arranged on a white plate, dusted with powdered sugar. Each tree is topped with a small white star, making them look just like my favorite Christmas cookies in a festive winter scene.

Christmas Tree Cookies

Christmas Tree Cookies are a must-have for the holiday season, adding festive charm to any dessert table.

Whether baking a sugar cookie Christmas tree or assembling a cookie Christmas tree centerpiece, there are endless ways to get creative.

Try decorating Christmas tree cookies using icing, sprinkles, and edible glitter for a unique twist on tradition!

Snowflake Sugar Cookies

Wow, your friends at your next holiday get-together with our Snowflake Sugar Cookies, each sparkling with gold sprinkles.

They’re not just a joy to look at but a delight to eat, too. Bring a little extra sparkle to your celebrations with these magical treats.

A wreath made of my favorite Christmas cookies—snowflake-shaped sugar cookies with white icing and blue sprinkles—arranged on a white wooden surface with ornaments, ribbon, greenery, and festive lights all around.

Edible Holiday Wreath Sugar Cookies

An Edible Holiday Wreath made out of sugar cookies makes a wonderful treat or gift!

I’ve always wanted to create a wreath made out of cookies but needed to devise a way to attach the cookies.

Finally, after watching The Great British Baking Show, I got the courage to tackle this project. And you’re in luck since today I’m sharing my tutorial with you!

A white mug of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows holds a pastel Christmas tree cookie—one of my favorite Christmas cookies. In front, a plate showcases iced sugar cookies shaped like trees and houses, with ornaments nearby.

Hanging Mug Topper Cookies

These adorable Hanging Mug Topper Cookies are the easiest to make. Unlike the complicated mini gingerbread houses mug huggers, these cutout sugar cookies don’t require building a house.

Also, the cookie cutters sit perfectly on the coffee mug’s rim since the cutter’s physics are excellent.

Icebox Cookies Recipe

Icebox cookies (also known as refrigerator cookies) are a type of cookie dough chilled in the refrigerator before being baked. This allows the dough to be easily sliced and baked as needed, resulting in a crisp and delicious cookie. These cookies were popular during my childhood, and this Icebox Cookie Recipe is from my mom’s cookie collection. I have fond memories of my mom making the dough logs and slicing the chilled dough into single cookies. It tastes like sugar cookies crossed with hints of a shortbread cookie. Add sprinkles, chocolate chips, or nuts, but anyway, you make them. They’re convenient, simple cookies that will satisfy any cookie craving.

Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies

If you’re a cookie enthusiast, you’re definitely going to adore my favorite Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies! The only issue I face with these irresistible treats is my inability to stop munching on them.

Even my daughter constantly requests that I bake them! This our favorite Christmas cookie to make!

More Cookie Recipes From My Friends

Colorful sweater-shaped cookies, inspired by my favorite Christmas cookies, are decorated with icing and hang on mini wooden hangers in clear bags on a wooden rack. A few more, also packaged, rest on the table underneath.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Cookies

This post shows how sugar cookies shaped and decorated like festive “ugly Christmas sweaters” can totally steal the spotlight on your dessert table — fun, cheerful, and perfect for holiday parties!

Iced Christmas cookies—my favorite Christmas cookies—are shaped like trees and circles, decorated with white icing and red and green sprinkles on a wooden surface dusted with powdered sugar, surrounded by mini snow-covered trees and a red ribbon.

Easy Vanilla Bean Christmas Light Cookies

This post describes a cookie recipe that swaps boring sugar cookies for soft, buttery cookies flavored with brown butter and real vanilla — and then tops them with a creamy vanilla-bean glaze, chocolate “light cords,” and festive holiday M&M’s for the “lights.”

Latest Obsession – Wooden Cookie Mold

A wooden cookie mold shaped like a winter hat sits on a festive red napkin; decorated red, green, and white molded cookies recipe creations are displayed on a white cake stand in the background.
Three holiday cookies shaped like winter hats with red and green bottoms, decorated with white sprinkles, are displayed on a white cake stand with festive greenery and a Santa mug in the background.

Wooden Cookie Mold

I have to admit… I’m completely obsessed with this wooden cookie mold! 🥰 For the longest time, I was honestly intimidated by them. I had visions of the dough sticking and everything falling apart. But once I figured out the trick—a generous dusting of cornstarch and a few good taps on the counter—the cookies popped right out like magic!

The details from the mold come out beautifully, and when you dye the cookie dough in festive holiday colors, they turn into the cutest little works of edible art. 🎄❤️💚 Whether you keep them simple or get fancy with color combos, they make such charming cookies to gift or serve at holiday gatherings.

If you’ve been curious about molded cookies, don’t wait like I did—these are way easier than they look and so rewarding to make. Definitely check out this mold and try it for yourself!

This Week’s Tip – Icing Tip

Three pumpkin-shaped cookies in various stages of being iced are placed on parchment paper. To the right is a vibrant bouquet of flowers with pink and white blooms. The text "HAPPY HAPPY NESTER" is visible at the bottom left corner of the image.

Icing Tip

If you’re at all intimidated by icing cookies, here’s a helpful tip to get the icing to the right consistency! It’s called, The 10 Second Rule. To check consistency, drag the tip of a knife across the surface of the icing, letting it go approximately an inch deep, and slowly count to 10. If the surface of the icing smooths over in approximately 10 seconds, then your icing is the correct consistency and is now ready to use. If your royal icing fills in too quickly and starts overflowing the cookie, just mix in a tiny bit more powdered sugar to thicken it up. On the flip side, if it’s taking too long to settle and fill in the space, add a few drops of water to loosen it slightly.

Getting the right icing consistency makes all the difference—it’ll help your cookie decorating go smoothly and give you those beautiful, crisp edges and smooth fills we all love!
