My inspiration behind these triple chocolate chunk cookies is close to my heart. Not long ago, my husband and I made a trip to Vermont to visit his parents. While we were there, I came across one of my mother-in-law’s dessert recipes, which was this very recipe. I took a photo of the page and couldn’t wait to bake them with my daughter, my right-hand woman, when in the kitchen. Fast forward to December 2021, and I am now sharing this mouthwatering recipe with you all.

Over the many years of creating recipes in the kitchen, I have never baked triple chocolate anything until now! However, I can now say these cookies are one of my family’s favorite. So, whether you want to cure your sweet tooth or share some festive treats with a loved one, this recipe of triple chocolate chunk cookies is your best bet when it comes to creating a showstopping cookie!

During this time of year, it is extra important to show how appreciative you are of the people you love! So, create a package full of delectable desserts to send to your friend, neighbor, family member, or coworker! The more people, the better. Spreading Christmas cheer is what the holidays are all about, so time to do so by first baking these triple chocolate chunk cookies, then placing them in one of my cookie packages, along with adding a seasonal gift tag!

Here is another cookie recipe, along with my homemade cookie gift packages and some festive gift tags that are FREE to download and print to create that special gift for that special someone.

Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies

Start your holiday baking by learning how to make this seasonal dessert. Here are a few simple steps to create this fudgy, rich and tasty cookie.

Step 1 – Mixing Ingredients

Start by melting the shortening and unsweetened chocolate together in a pot over the stove. Watch the pot while mixing thoroughly at low heat to prevent the chocolate from burning. Once melted, add the sugar, vanilla, and mix. Once mixed, you then add one egg at a time, beating the mixture in a mixer after each egg.

Step 2 – Adding Dry Ingredients

Next, once you have added your eggs, it’s time to include remaining dry ingredients such as chocolate chips, flour, baking powder, salt and, chopped nuts.

Step 3 – Chilling Time

Once you have mixed all of your ingredients, it’s time to chill the mixture for at least two hours in the refrigerator. This step is crucial because chilling the cookie dough allows the fat in the triple chocolate chunk cookies to solidify. As a result, your cookies will spread slowly, more evenly while also holding onto their texture.

Step 4 – Shaping Cookies

After two or more hours of chilling your cookie dough in the refrigerator, it’s now time to take the mixture out and start shaping. Before you begin shaping, I would advise you to preheat the oven to 350 degrees so the oven is heating up while shaping the dough.

First, using your fingers, you want to roll the dough into walnut-sized balls, and once in your desired shape, you will roll the dough in confectioner’s sugar, also known as raw sugar. Once you have rolled your dough in raw sugar, you then sprinkle a tiny amount of kosher salt on the top of each ball.

Step 5 – Baking Time

Grease your chosen cookies sheets with vegetable oil, and then place your cookie dough balls about half an inch from one another. Once set and ready to go, put them in the oven and bake them for ten to fifteen minutes at 350 degrees. When baking, make sure to check on the cookies every five minutes to watch for burning and other effects. You do not want to overbake your triple chocolate chunk cookies.

Step 6 – After Baking

When the oven timer goes off, remove the cookie sheets from the oven. Then, take your cookies off the cookie sheets and move them to a cooling rack to cool off for about ten to fifteen minutes. The triple chocolate chunk cookies will be small and look like they didn’t spread—no need to worry. This recipe makes small, petite cookies.

Step 7 – Last-Minute Decorating

Once your cookies are thoroughly cooled after removing from the oven, you have the option of adding a Hershey’s Kiss to the top of the cookie for that extra chocolate flavor.
