I find that every year my holiday color scheme is a mystery to me. You see as a blogger, we are somewhat committed to change up our holiday decor. This task can be a bit daunting but thankfully my Merry and Bright Holiday Gift Tags quickly set the stage. And so far I’m pleased with my Black and White Cottage Christmas Mantel. And for an added bonus I combined the color of pink for a bit of pizzaz!
Isn’t it hilarious how one thing will determine everything?

By the way, if you are familiar with my blog, I create a bunch of holiday decor. I think I’m happiest when I’m crafting.

Crafting is an everyday phenomenon over in my studio. And so it wasn’t surprising that my black and white felt flower anemones popped up in my living room. You can find how to make these elegant flowers in my post.
There is a Cute Story Behind These Flowers
You see my good friend Ashley asked me what colors and theme I had chosen for holiday decorating. Well, I told her that I was busy making anemones and so it looked like I would have a black and white cottage Christmas mantel.
Several days passed and she is thinking, how is Janine going to tie in the sea anemones with her tree and mantel? Wow, she thought that I was ambitious decorating with an ocean theme this year.
Finally, we met for a craft date, and I mentioned my anemones, and that is when I set the record straight. I was making felt flower anemones! Of course, we totally laughed our heads off and envisioned my tree with sea creatures. Too funny how our wires got crossed.
So, I need to mention that my felt FLOWER anemones also, set the stage for my black and white cottage Christmas mantel.
My Black and White Cottage Christmas Mantel
So, back to my mantel.
I enjoy creating garland so as you can see there is my felt anemone garland and my pom-pom garland. Someday, I’ll do a quick tutorial on how to make pom-poms with my great little pom-pom tool.
Also, I added some vintage ornaments. I am a bit obsessed with old ornaments. Some women collect shoes and purses, and I snatch up every vintage ornament I come across. My husband has jokingly banned me from buying more and you can see how much I listen to him.
As you can see in the wire basket and glass vase, I have a few ornaments. I love decorating with them throughout the year, and they just add a right pop of color and sparkle to any room. I’ll let you in on a secret. So far this month, I haven’t even brought out the bulk of my holiday decor yet.
So, with a few items and a color scheme you can easily style a cozy and pretty mantel. Don’t be afraid to make a few of your holiday decor. This year with my black and white cottage Christmas mantel, my dear friend Jodie taught me that the whole mantel including the hearth is just as special and needs some love too. So my motto now is, “Fill it to the Brim.”
And maybe next year I’ll tackle an ocean theme Christmas.

I love the flower garland, Janine. The whole room is gorgeous! That’s such a funny story about your friend. I always think the same thing when I hear anemones.
