Summer Flowers in the Home

Everything is coming up flowers! I just love this time of year, the sweet smell of jasmine can transport me to Hawaii. I believe that flowers bring their beauty inside when you decorate with them. My friend, Gloribell from I Don’t Know How She Does It says, “Flowers bring happiness without even having to smile!” I couldn’t agree more. I am part of a group of bloggers and designers, Bay Area Home, and we are highlighting our homes with summer decor. This week’s challenge is bringing flowers into our homes. I thought it would be nice to share some of the flowers that I have used to brighten up our home. So, come along and take a peek at our store bought and home grown flowers.
~ A Note from Claude Monet ~
I must have flowers, always, and always.
We have Calla Lilies in our front yard. I love to put a few in a big vase and complement them with a couple leaves from our Bird of Paradise plant. Did you know that Calla Lilies are native to South Africa? Also, they can be grown inside and should be started from a tuber rather than from seeds. Apparently, seeds don’t necessarily have a good germination rate.
You can get this look from these stores; Harborside Sofa, and Yellow Rug.
Do you dry your hydrangea blossoms? I have tried to dry some flowers with my California plants, and I’m having the hardest time. First of all, they don’t make it to August, and they shrivel up and dry out. When we lived in Washington, I would get beautiful blossoms late in the summer, and I would harvest the leather like beauties in the Fall. Until I figure out how to dry the blossoms, I’ll continue to buy an inexpensive bouquet from the San Francisco Flower Market and dry these instead.
If you like our candle votives, these are from the Seattle-based company, GlassBaby
This spring my husband gave me some rose bushes as a Mother’s Day present. So, now I’m a proud owner of a few rose bushes. I feel that the homegrown roses look and smell so wonderful compared to the store bought ones.
I always have a spot in our home ready for hydrangeas. These are from our garden, and I just love how serene and beautiful they make this room.

Here I used an vintage vase that brings out the pink in the geraniums. I love how just having a low-cut flower just adds a nice surprise dimension to a bouquet.

So, go out into your garden or stop off at the grocery store and pick some flowers for your summer home! Have fun with varieties and colors and add a nice pop to your rooms. Summer your home with flowers and let me know if you liked this post and would like to see more like it.
Cheers,

Thank you so much Janine for quoting me! I thought it was a rather silly thing to say but I'm so glad you liked it. I do also love hydrangeas. Don't know why, but they always make my heart skip a bit. I'm trying to grow some here in hot Miami, and so far it's been multiplying its leaves like crazy. Still crossing fingers for it to grow big like the ones I saw once in S.C. Again thank you and have a great day dear friend!
