A Personal Note from Janine

This spring, we decided to try our luck and planted two orange trees. Unfortunately, we’ve never had much success with growing oranges. Despite plenty of blooms and some initial fruit, the little oranges start dropping one by one, and my excitement fades with each one that falls. If anyone has advice on what I might be doing wrong, please leave a comment.
On the bright side, we have no trouble growing lemon and lime trees; every spring, we have an abundance of fruit! I love finding new and fun ways to bake and cook with them. I’m excited to share some of my favorite recipes with you today.
In other news, I hope you all stay cool despite the heat wave hitting the States! Hang out with me today, sip a refreshing lemon drink, and let’s chat for a bit! Your tips and stories are always welcome; we can make the most of this sunny season together.
Cheers,

This smooth gluten-free Free Lemon Drizzle Cake is wheat-free but tastes like it has wheat. It’s similar to a lemon pound cake recipe minus the wheat flour. The intense lemon flavor makes it the best lemon cake around.
This Lemon Tart Puff Pastry is so easy to make. I love how it tastes like it was made in a fancy bakery. The key is to use fresh homemade lemon curd. I used my trusty English lemon curd recipe for this dessert. But a store-bought curd will do well if you are pressed for time.

This Week’s Tip – Lemons as a Hand and Nail Cleaner
Lemon Hand and Nail Cleaner
Do you know that you can use lemons to help clean dirt from under your fingernails? The acidity of the lemon juice acts as a natural cleanser.
Growing up, my grandma was an avid gardener, and I have fond memories of her garden filled with beautiful flowers. After a day of gardening, her hands and nails would be covered in dirt. She would grab a lemon, slice it in half, and run her nails through the flesh of the lemon. She would then proudly show me her clean, spotless nails!
If you like there is another way you can clean your hands and nails with lemon juice.
- Prepare a Lemon Soak: Mix the juice of one lemon with a cup of warm water in a small bowl.
- Soak Your Fingernails: Dip your fingers in the mixture and soak for about 5-10 minutes.
- Scrub: Use a soft nail brush or an old toothbrush to gently scrub under your nails.
- Rinse and Moisturize: Rinse your hands with warm water and apply a moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out.
