These timeless recipes remind me of family gatherings and cozy evenings baking in the kitchen.

Deck the Halls and Bake Some Cakes
With Christmas decorating in full swing, now is the perfect time to add a festive cake or two to the holiday lineup.
Imagine a beautifully frosted gingerbread cake as the centerpiece of your dessert table or a fluffy peppermint cake that’s perfect with a cup of cocoa.
Cakes add a touch of sweetness to your holiday menu and double as stunning decor. A well-decorated cake can genuinely bring your Christmas table to life.
A Personal Note from Janine
These mini pumpkin-shaped cakes are as adorable as they are delicious! I love pushing myself to create desserts that go beyond the usual recipes, and this one was such a fun challenge. If you’re looking for a festive treat for Thanksgiving or fall, this project is the perfect blend of creativity and ease.
The kitchen is my happy place. I love diving into new recipes without overthinking the process—it’s all part of the fun! I recently worked on a holiday craft and tried three different versions, which stressed me out a bit. But baking? I could make three versions of a cake or cookie without batting an eye. It’s just so relaxing!
There’s something therapeutic about baking. It feels like a creative art form that, when everything comes together just right, not only looks beautiful but also tastes amazing.
Do you feel the same way? Baking is such a fun, relaxing escape for me—it turns any day into something special. I’d love to know if you feel the same or if there’s something else that’s your happy place!
So, let’s get inspired for the holidays this weekend!
And thanks so much for your weekend visit!
Cheers,

I hadn’t heard of the Queen of Sheba Cake until I fell in love with Julia Child’s recipe. According to Julia, this cake tests a pastry chef’s ability to make a cake that doesn’t have a leavening agent. This cake gets its lift from whipping egg whites.
This cake gem is easy to make and a part of Julia Child’s repertoire!

I love hydrangea flowers, so combining them into a beautiful cake would be nice. This hydrangea cake is simple to create but looks like it came from a fancy pastry shop. There is no need to pipe buttercream, as this recipe uses fondant and a hydrangea cutout for the blossoms.

This Week’s Tip – Fondant Mushrooms
Fondant Mushrooms
If you’re like me and obsessed with mushrooms, you’ll love this! When I first decided to make pastry mushrooms, I found tons of tutorials on using marzipan. Naturally, I gave it a try—only to fail miserably. The marzipan was way too soft, and the dough just wouldn’t hold its shape.
That’s when I switched to fondant, and surprisingly, it worked like a charm! Once I added a light dusting of cocoa powder, the mushrooms looked incredibly realistic—just like the real thing.
So, if you’re working on a fun, woodsy-themed cake, try making your mushrooms with plain white fondant. It’s easy, and the results are amazing!
Latest Obsession – Black Chocolate
Have you ever heard of black chocolate?
I just found it while searching the Internet for something else. Of course, I went down the rabbit hole and checked out the links. So, if you want to know what it is, black chocolate, also known as ultra-dark chocolate, is a type of chocolate with a higher cocoa content than typical dark chocolate, often 85% or more. It has a bold, slightly bitter flavor and a rich, intense cocoa taste, making it a favorite for true chocolate enthusiasts. Due to its minimal sugar content, it’s also considered a healthier option than sweeter chocolates.
This Sunday, I’m baking cookies with it to create a dramatic, dark cookie dough, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ll be sharing both projects with you in the coming weeks. I have to say, opening a bag of black chocolate is such a treat—the deep, rich fragrance is incredible and promises some truly delicious holiday cookies!
