Another highlight of fall cooking is how well it pairs with seasonal produce. The fall harvest contains vibrant, fresh ingredients that inspire various dishes.

The abundance of seasonal fruits and vegetables allows you to make wholesome, nutrient-packed dishes that taste great and nourish the body during the cooler months.

Why Autumn Recipes Deserve a Spot in Your Kitchen

There’s something special about cooking during the autumn season. The flavors are more robust, and the dishes are designed to provide warmth on crisp fall days.

Whether roasting vegetables, baking fresh bread, or simmering a pot of soup, autumn recipes invite you to slow down and appreciate the simple pleasures of cooking.

Incorporating seasonal spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves into your autumn recipes can elevate even the simplest dishes.

These spices add a layer of warmth and comfort, making them ideal for fall cooking. These aromatic elements are crucial to creating the perfect fall culinary experience.

A Personal Note from Janine

I

When we first moved into our Northern California home, you can see in the photo to the left what our original kitchen looked like. It was pretty dated and incredibly small! During the remodel, we opened it up, added more counter space, and tons of extra storage. Before that, we used to jokingly call it our “one-butt kitchen” because only one person could fit at a time—otherwise, we’d constantly be bumping into each other.

The lack of counter space was also a struggle. We were always shifting things around like one of those tile puzzle games, trying to make room for whatever we were working on.

Now, the kitchen feels like a dream! It’s big enough for me to create all kinds of desserts and dinners with plenty of space to spread out. I’m so glad we waited a few years before diving into the remodel because we really got to understand the flow and what the kitchen needed to function best for us. It’s now one of the most loved and used rooms in our home!

With Thanksgiving coming up, my kiddos will be home, and we’re ready to cook up some amazing dishes for the big feast. I can’t wait to put this kitchen to good use!

I hope you have a kitchen that makes you happy and excited to cook in, too! Stick around with me today as I share some yummy autumn recipes—let’s get inspired together!

This Week’s Inspiration – Autumn Recipes

A bowl of colorful vegetable pasta featuring fettuccine, sliced carrots, broccoli florets, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes, topped with grated cheese and garnished with fresh herbs. This perfect addition to your autumn recipes sits on a light wooden surface next to a yellow and white striped cloth.

Pesto Primavera Pasta Recipe

You’ll love this inexpensive and easy-to-make Pesto Primavera recipe. It’s a fresh veggie pasta that’s bursting with yummy Italian flavors. Primavera means “spring” in Italian, so this dish typically features a variety of colorful vegetables that are in season in the spring. But really, you can use whatever veggies you like or have on hand.

Autumn recipes: Slices of almond-topped bars arranged on a small white pedestal plate. The background includes white flowers, light blue eggs, and a small bowl filled with almond slivers.

A white bowl filled with grilled meat, avocado slices, roasted vegetables, and couscous, garnished with herbs. Surrounding it are a bowl of mixed greens, a sliced avocado, and a plate of roasted vegetables—perfect for autumn recipes.

Grilled Salmon Bowl

This Grilled Salmon Bowl recipe is simply irresistible! The honey-sweetened sauce perfectly complements the grilled fish. Inside the bowl, you’ll find a blend of pine nuts, cranberry couscous, creamy avocado slices, roasted yams, and sweet potatoes. The fresh microgreens and a drizzle of naturally sweet reduced balsamic vinegar complete the dish perfectly. You’ll want to go back for seconds!

A loaf of freshly baked bread with a rustic, crunchy crust rests on a checkered cloth. A single slice is cut, revealing a speckled interior with bits of grains or nuts. A blurred background shows a white cup on a saucer, adding a cozy touch that perfectly complements autumn recipes.

Sourdough Cranberry Walnut Bread

Have you tried the cranberry walnut bread from Costco? I love this yummy bread, but it’s only available during certain times of the year. So, I created my version: sourdough cranberry walnut bread! It’s such a close match with the chopped nuts and cranberries that I’m thrilled with the result. I don’t have to wait until the holidays to enjoy my favorite bread!

A white plate with a blue pattern features a dish of steamed mussels, served with slices of bread and pats of butter. On the table are a bowl of yellow lemons, a head of garlic, and additional bread rolls. A cut lemon and utensils are also present, reflecting bright natural light—the perfect setting for autumn recipes.

How to Make Mussels in White Wine Sauce

Moule Marinere is a favorite dish we love to order at a French restaurant in San Francisco. My husband was determined to replicate the flavors of this dish and spent countless attempts perfecting his recipe for Mussels in White Wine Sauce. His persistence paid off, as he could match and even surpass the quality of the mussels we typically order from Chez Maman in San Francisco. The recipe features fresh mussels swimming in a deliciously buttery and oniony white wine sauce that will leave you slurping up every last drop.

A close-up of a dessert plate featuring a serving of bread pudding topped with a generous drizzle of cream sauce. The bread pudding appears moist and golden brown, with a mixture of gooey, caramelized and crispy edges—a perfect example of autumn recipes. A pink-striped napkin is partially visible in the background.

Donut Bread Pudding

Indulge in the ultimate comfort dessert with our Donut Bread Pudding recipe, a delightful fusion of classic bread pudding and sweet, glazed donuts. This rich and decadent treat combines day-old donuts soaked in a creamy custard, baked to perfection, and drizzled with a luscious vanilla glaze. Perfect for any occasion, this donut bread pudding will satisfy your sweet tooth and become a family favorite.

A skillet filled with a creamy tomato and shrimp dish, perfect for autumn recipes, garnished with herbs. The skillet is placed on a weathered white wooden table, accompanied by a wooden spatula, a bowl of crumbled cheese, scattered herbs, and a white towel with red stripes.

Creamy Shrimp Pasta Recipe

This Creamy Shrimp Pasta Recipe with White Wine perfectly combines flavors and textures. I love how the creamy feta cheese sauce pairs with the sweet and salty shrimp, and adding tomato, basil, and chili pepper flakes takes it to the next level. Serving it all over penne pasta is just the perfect complement.

An ornate plate with three croissant twists topped with icing takes the spotlight. Surrounding the plate are pink flowers, a pink checkered cloth, a bowl with white powder, a few butter slices, and a golden spoon. The image exudes an autumn recipes vibe within its delicate, pastel-themed arrangement.

Cinnamon Breadsticks

Making these Cinnamon Breadsticks is simple, and the cream cheese icing is delightful. While they require yeast, the rising time is minimal, producing deliciously tender cinnamon sugar breadsticks. This cinnamon breadstick recipe is perfect for satisfying your sweet cravings any time of day, whether as a delightful breakfast treat or a delicious dessert option.

A bowl of chili filled with kidney beans, corn, diced tomatoes, and green onions sits on a marble countertop beside a red-striped white cloth. A spoon rests nearby, and a second bowl of this autumn recipe is partially visible in the upper right corner.

Crock Pot Recipe

I’m sure you have a lot of small appliances in your kitchen, and hopefully, you own a Crock-Pot. Today, we are talking about my Crock-Pot Easy Chili Recipe.

A festive charcuterie wreath arranged with various snacks, including cashews, berries, cheeses, cookies in autumn leaf shapes, and dips in small bowls on a white background. Decorated with a small pumpkin and a napkin in the center, this delightful creation is perfect for your autumn recipes collection.

Small Charcuterie Board Ideas

Let’s put together a cute Small Charcuterie Board Wreath. I’ll guide you through creating a charming charcuterie board that resembles a beautiful wreath packed with savory and sweet goodies. I will also reveal all the delicious treats I included on the board.

A saucepan filled with peach bourbon barbecue sauce, with a wooden spoon resting on its side. Sliced peaches and a bottle of Maker's Mark whiskey are nearby, along with a cutting board holding a jar of Bonne Maman peach preserves and more peach slices, perfect for cozy autumn recipes.

Peach Bourbon Glaze

Prepare to boost your taste buds with this Peach Bourbon Glaze recipe. It combines the goodness of brown sugar, ripe peaches, an array of spices, and the delicious touch of peach jam into a sauce.

A white platter with blue floral designs holds breaded fish fillets topped with toasted almond slices—perfect for autumn recipes. Alongside the fish are fresh green beans. Also visible are a small bowl with more almond slices and a dish with a spoon, all set on a light wooden surface.

Recipe for Trout Almondine

This Recipe for Trout Almondine combines brown butter and crispy almonds. This delicious combination adds a rich and nutty flavor to the trout. Brown butter is made by cooking butter until the milk solids turn golden brown, resulting in a deep, nutty taste. The sliced almonds, when toasted until crispy, provide a delightful crunch and enhance the overall texture of the dish.

A baking tray filled with baked twisted breadsticks sits on a marble countertop. Next to the tray is a plate with more breadsticks and a spoon with dark jam. Also visible are a plate with butter cubes and a decorative plate, perfect for autumn recipes in a light and airy kitchen setting.

Homemade Breadsticks without Yeast

This recipe for Homemade Breadsticks without Yeast is straightforward and delicious. They’re so quick to prepare that I often make them at the last minute to complement our dinner. Since we prefer dipping them in jam, they don’t contain any cheese. However, incorporating some Parmesan into the dough is an effortless modification.

A bowl of beef stew with carrots and potatoes served over mashed potatoes graces a white wooden table. An autumn recipe favorite, it's surrounded by a striped orange and white napkin, a fork, sliced bread, chopped onions, garlic, and a bowl of grated cheese.

Beef Bourguignon Instant Pot

This beef bourguignon cooked in an Instant Pot is the ultimate savory comfort food. The beef chunks and vegetables become melt-in-your-mouth tender, making it perfect for any occasion.

A golden-brown apple crumble pie sits on a white pedestal cake stand, embodying the essence of autumn recipes. The pie crust is flaky with a crumbly top. Next to the stand is a checkered red napkin and a partially peeled green apple with apple peels scattered beside it. Neutral background.

Dutch Apple Pie Recipe

I can’t resist a Dutch Apple Pie Recipe with a crumble topping! The combination of yummy apples and sweet, crunchy topping is perfect. Add a dollop of vanilla ice cream to make a winning combination.

A white bowl filled with creamy soup containing vegetables like carrots and broccoli sits on a grey tablecloth alongside a metal spoon. Behind the bowl, there is a loaf of bread, a slice of cheese, an onion, and a potato on a wooden cutting board—perfect for cozy autumn recipes.

Easy Homemade Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This Easy Homemade Broccoli Cheddar Soup is packed with onions, potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. It’s similar to the famous Panera recipe but better. It’s creamy, thick, and rich in flavor, making it a great soup. And it simmers for only 30 minutes!

A close-up of a plate featuring several neatly stacked pastry squares. The pastries have golden layers with a light dusting of powdered sugar on top, appearing flaky and delicious—a perfect treat for autumn recipes. The plate has a soft blue hue, and a beige fabric is partially visible underneath it.

Cinnamon Sugar Pancakes

These Cinnamon Sugar Pancakes are thin, dainty pancakes stacked with a sugary, cinnamony, and walnut-filled mixture. They’re a treat—delicate, definitely one-of-a-kind, and oh-so-delicious.

This Week’s Tip – Some Cinnamon Contains Lead

Three whole cinnamon sticks and a pile of ground cinnamon are displayed against a white background. The cinnamon sticks are slightly curved and brown, and the ground cinnamon forms a fine, light-brown powder heap—perfect for enriching your favorite autumn recipes.

Cinnamon and Lead

A CNN report mentioned that a study showed levels of lead in cinnamon.

According to the report, cinnamon powder sold by Paras contained the highest levels of lead, at 3.52 parts per million, or ppm. Trace amounts of lead are found in nearly every food product grown worldwide. Also, the FDA has set no formal regulation for the amount of lead in spices but has never issued a consumer alert or recall for spice products containing lead at a level below two parts per million.

But if you’re like me, you try to eat as healthy as possible. So, I looked over the numbers on the various brands of cinnamon.

The next highest level was found in cinnamon powder from EGN (2.91 ppm), followed by Mimi’s Products ground cinnamon (2.03 ppm), ShopRite Bowl & Basket ground cinnamon (1.82 ppm), Rani Brand ground cinnamon (1.39 ppm), Zara Foods cinnamon powder (1.27 ppm), Three Rivers cinnamon stick powder (1.26 ppm), Yu Yee Brand five spice powder (1.25 ppm), BaiLiFeng five spice powder (1.15 ppm), Spicy King five spices powder (1.05 ppm), Badia cinnamon powder (1.03 ppm) and Deep cinnamon powder (1.02 ppm).

And if you’re wondering which brand has the smallest amount of lead, here’s the link to it!

Latest Obsession – Marzipan

Autumn recipes: Slices of almond-topped bars arranged on a small white pedestal plate. The background includes white flowers, light blue eggs, and a small bowl filled with almond slivers.

Marzipan

Believe it or not, I hadn’t baked with marzipan until just the other day! I decided to try my mom’s Banket dessert recipe, which called for marzipan, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it. The rich almond flavor from the almond paste was incredible, and I couldn’t get enough of this delicious dessert.

I also gave molding candy marzipan a try, but it was a bit too soft to hold its shape. I’m determined to keep practicing, though, because I really want to make marzipan mushrooms for fall! Fingers crossed I can perfect it soon—I can already picture how cute they’ll look as part of my autumn dessert spread!

Have any marzipan tips? I’d love to hear them!

In the meantime, check out my delicious Banket Recipe Bars!
