A Personal Note from Janine
What a crazy week it’s been!
First, my website crashed, and then my computer decided to call it quits. To top it off, my household chores are still hanging over my head. Thankfully, I can use my husband’s computer, or this post wouldn’t even be possible!
Today, however, the sun is shining, and things are starting to look up.
Despite the chaos, I have a soft spot for this time of year. I find myself daydreaming about blooming flowers, spring green hills, pink tree blossoms, and the promise of warmer days.
Living in San Francisco has its perks, and with spring just around the corner, I can’t help but enjoy the short winters and the green hills that have flourished from the recent torrential rain.
But, back to this Saturday Chitchat, it’s all about gluten free dessert recipes!
I’ve been in the kitchen a lot lately, so I’m excited to share this post with you.
Happy Saturday!

This Week’s Tip – Meringue Tips
MERINGUE TIPS
This week, I was deep into the world of meringue.
I’d heard about the warnings of a rainy day when making meringue, but I underestimated the impact.
I whipped up some vegan meringue cookies, and fresh out of the oven, they were perfect. However, within minutes, they turned sticky.
On a whim, I stashed some in an airtight container, and wow! The difference was astounding.
The container-kept cookies dried out beautifully, while the ones on our kitchen counter got even stickier. Turns out, with all the rain in the San Francisco Bay Area, my meringues were like sponges, soaking up the moisture in the air!
In a nutshell, if you’re baking on a rainy day, store your meringues in an airtight container after they come out of the oven.
Latest Obsession – Baking Timer
TIMER
You all know I’m a huge fan of the Great British Baking Show, and something caught my eye – those tiny handheld timers the contestants use.
Usually, I rely on the oven or my phone timer, but that can be a hassle when the oven’s busy or my phone decides to log out.
Recently, I got myself one of those handheld timers, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer! Timing things, like whipping up egg whites for meringue, has never been easier.
They’re not too pricey, so I’m scratching my head wondering why it took me so long to get one!
This little gadget has made a big difference in the precision of my baking!
