Over the years, I’ve made a surprising number of Halloween projects. Some started as simple afternoon crafts, while others became decorations that completely transformed our porch or table for the holiday.

And of course, I couldn’t make a Halloween collection without including something sweet!

Cute Halloween Recipes and Treats

Let’s start with the treats! Halloween desserts are especially fun because you can take a simple recipe and make it festive with chocolate, sprinkles, candy eyes, pumpkins, or Halloween colors.

Halloween Puppy Chow

My Halloween Puppy Chow is an easy chocolate snack made with Chex cereal, peanut butter, chocolate, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. I added candy eyeballs and orange and black M&M’s to give the classic muddy buddies a Halloween makeover.

This is a great one to make for Halloween parties since it disappears pretty quickly!

Oreo Halloween Treats

These Oreo Halloween Treats might be some of the cutest Halloween desserts I’ve made. Oreos are tucked inside pumpkin-shaped chocolate shells and decorated in pretty pastel colors.

They’re surprisingly simple to make with a silicone pumpkin mold and would be adorable on a Halloween dessert table or wrapped up as little gifts.

Easy Halloween Bark

This Halloween Bark is another fun treat that you can completely customize. It has a graham cracker toffee base covered with chocolate and then topped with Halloween candies, sprinkles, and festive decorations.

I made mine with pink chocolate and a cute ghost cookie, which gives it a softer, whimsical Halloween look.

Easy Halloween Bat Craft

I have a bit of a thing for decorating with bats at Halloween!

This easy Halloween bat craft was inspired by a trip we took to the Spanish Pyrenees. I ended up creating a fun bat project that became part craft and part Halloween decoration.

It’s one of those projects that proves Halloween decorating doesn’t need to be complicated.

DIY Halloween Candle Labels

This DIY Halloween Decor Candle Label project is such an easy way to dress up simple glass candleholders.

I created printable plaid Halloween labels that you can download, cut out, and attach to the candleholders. Add a little orange ribbon and suddenly an ordinary candle feels ready for Halloween.

This project only takes about 15 minutes, which is my kind of craft!

Letters on a Pumpkin

I painted small magnetic alphabet letters gold and attached them to a white pumpkin to spell WICKED.

You could easily customize this idea with different colors or words to coordinate with your Halloween decorations.

Ghost Painted Pumpkins

These Ghost Painted Pumpkins definitely belong in a collection of cute Halloween ideas!

The pumpkins are painted dark gray and decorated with tiny white fingerprint ghosts with funny little faces. They’re an easy no-carve pumpkin project and a fun craft to make with kids.

Floating Pumpkins

These Floating Pumpkins were inspired by Harry Potter and make such a fun Halloween display.

Battery-operated faux pumpkins are suspended with fishing line so they appear to float overhead. You can hang them on a covered porch or bring the idea indoors for a magical Halloween decoration.

This might be my favorite category.

I tend to use a combination of pumpkins, candles, ghosts, bats, witch hats, and seasonal flowers rather than filling the house with scary decorations.

Pastel Halloween Decor

I had so much fun decorating a table for Halloween.

I mixed Halloween signs, candles, amber and black votives, pretty tableware, and a faux crow to create a table that feels festive without being too creepy.

A Halloween table is also an easy place to experiment with decorations because you don’t have to redo an entire room.

Black and White Halloween Front Porch

One year, I decided to skip most of the traditional orange and created a Black and White Halloween Front Porch instead.

I filled the porch with white pumpkins and white chrysanthemums and then added crows, ghosts, candles, and other Halloween touches.

I loved how the sea of white pumpkins looked around the front door.

The front porch is one of my favorite places to decorate because it’s the first thing trick-or-treaters see when they arrive.

How to Make Halloween Decor Cute Instead of Scary

You definitely don’t need skeletons, cobwebs, and scary decorations to make your home feel like Halloween.

I usually start with things I already use for fall, especially pumpkins. Then I add a few obvious Halloween elements like friendly ghosts, black bats, witch hats, candles, or a touch of black.

Color can make a big difference too. White pumpkins give Halloween a softer look, while pink and pastel decorations make it feel playful and unexpected. And if you love traditional Halloween colors, orange and black are always fun in smaller doses.

The same idea works with Halloween treats. Pumpkin-shaped chocolates, candy eyeballs, ghost cookies, and colorful sprinkles turn simple recipes into something special for October.

A Little Halloween Inspiration

I’ve always loved decorating our home for the seasons, and Halloween gives me an excuse to have a little more fun with it.

I look forward to the fall and winter holidays every year, and I love that Halloween gets everything started! When the kids were little, I had the perfect excuse to go all out with the decorations. One year, I strung orange and white twinkle lights all the way up our big staircase and onto the porch. I had so many lights that our house could have passed for an airport runway at night!

I have a tendency to overdo things. Give me a few pumpkins and somehow I end up with twenty! My family usually just laughs and lets me have my fun.

This year might be a little different. Our new lake house has a bright aqua front door, so I’m still trying to figure out how Halloween is going to work with it. Maybe a seaside Halloween theme? I’m sure I’ll come up with something!
