Saturday Chitchat with Janine – Volume 148

I adore Julia Child since she was known for her practical, fearless approach to cooking and baking, encouraging home cooks to experiment and enjoy the process, regardless of the outcome.

I can always count on Julia for some insight on baking since she has a witty and joyful approach to cooking and baking, emphasizing that desserts, especially cakes, bring a sense of celebration and festivity to any gathering.

“A party without cake is just a meeting.”

This quote reflects her witty and joyful approach to cooking and baking, emphasizing that desserts, especially cakes, bring a sense of celebration and festivity to any gathering.

So, I have included my favorite chocolate cake for the holidays in this post!

THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE

This is seriously The Best Chocolate Cake! I know many people claim to have the best cake, but you have to believe me that this is a super moist cake. Also, it has another name, Chocolate Beet Cake. easy christmas treats and these brown sugar coookies

BROWN BUTTER SUGAR COOKIES

Brown Butter Sugar Cookies with Chocolate Ganache is an irresistible recipe. I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to baking, but about ten years ago I found this great recipe from Gourmet Magazine and it was all about brown butter. This cookie is delicate and the flavor is incredible. The original recipe calls for fruit preserves between the cookies and this is where I modified it with a chocolate center.

easy christmas treats with mug topper cookies

HANGING MUG TOPPER COOKIES

These adorable Hanging Mug Topper Cookies are the easiest to make. Unlike the complicated mini gingerbread houses mug huggers, these cutout sugar cookies don’t require building a house. Also, the cookie cutters sit perfectly on the coffee mug’s rim since the cutter’s physics are excellent.

My Favorite Things – More Easy Christmas Treats

CHRISTMAS WREATH DECORATED COOKIES

My wonderful friend Leslie, the creative force behind My 100 Year Old Home, has outdone herself with these stunning wreath cookies! Her talent never ceases to amaze me, and I’m always in awe of everything she brings to life!

THE BEST RICE CRISPY TREAT RECIPE

This delicious recipe is straight from my friend Sara’s kitchen, and let me tell you, it’s not just another rice crispy treat recipe. Sara has added some new twists that make it stand out.

You should check out her site to discover the surprising ingredients she’s included in these easy holiday treats. Trust me, it’s worth a look!

SANTA CLAUS COOKIES

This simple and adorable recipe is courtesy of Taste of Home. It’s amazing how fun they make it, especially since you don’t have to bake the cookies from scratch. Instead, you get to use Nutter Butter cookies as the base, which is such a clever and convenient idea!

THE BEST PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES

With this delightful cookie recipe from KariAnne at Thistlewood Farms, you’re in for a real treat. It’s a special one from her mom’s kitchen, featuring cookies that are amazingly soft and chewy in the middle with a crisp, sugary edge.

It sure sounds like the perfect combination for a delicious treat.

This Week’s Tip – Pastry Cutter

PASTRY CUTTER

I’ve got this homemade pastry cutter that my grandpa made, and it’s just fantastic. I just recently began using it. The other night, while making breadsticks, I needed something to cut the dough in a straight line. So, I rummaged through my kitchen drawer and decided to try it.

It worked like a charm! I ended up with the straightest lines, and the dough was smoothly cut. The best part was that, unlike with a knife, the dough didn’t drag, which meant my breadsticks came out perfectly straight.

I’m officially on the pastry cutter bandwagon now! They are a game changer in the baking world.

Latest Obsession – Pop Tart Project!

POP TART PROJECT

I can’t even remember the last time I bought Pop-Tarts, but there I was the other day at the grocery store, picking them up. It’s incredible how many different flavors they have now, all those sugary breakfast treats lined up on the shelf.

Now, I’m not planning on eating them. Instead, I’ve got this fun idea to make gingerbread houses out of them. This weekend will be about that project, and I look forward to sharing the results with you after the holidays.

Talk about doing things at the last minute, right? At this rate, they are more like Spring Gingerbread houses!

So, stay tuned for how they turn out!
