Why I Love Organizing

Organizing isn’t just about tidying up—it’s about creating systems that make your life easier. Starting the New Year with a well-organized home feels like hitting the reset button!

Organizing Your Kitchen: The Heart of the Home

The kitchen is one of the busiest spaces in any household, making it essential to keep it organized.

Clear Out and Categorize

Start by emptying cabinets, drawers, and the pantry. Group similar items together—spices in one pile, baking supplies in another. This step helps you see what you have and what you need to restock.

Invest in Organizing Tools

Your best friends are clear storage containers, labeled jars, and drawer dividers. They maximize space and keep everything looking neat.

Designate Zones

Organize your kitchen by creating specific cooking, baking, and prepping zones. To streamline your workflow, keep commonly used items, such as pots and utensils, within easy reach.

Tackling the Pantry: Simplify and Streamline

The pantry can quickly become a catch-all for random items. Follow these steps to keep it under control:

Start Fresh

Remove everything from your pantry, checking expiration dates as you go. Toss anything expired and donate items you know you won’t use.

Use Uniform Containers

Invest in matching containers to store snacks, grains, and other pantry staples. This not only saves space but also makes your pantry visually appealing.

Label Everything

Labels are key to maintaining order. They ensure everyone in your household knows where things belong.

Organizing the Rest of Your Home

Once the kitchen and pantry are under control, tackle the rest of your home room by room.

Declutter First

Go through each room with a critical eye. Donate or discard items you no longer need or love. This creates more space and reduces visual clutter.

Utilize Vertical Space

Install shelves, hooks, or over-the-door organizers to maximize vertical space. This trick works exceptionally well in smaller rooms or closets.

Create Daily Habits

Maintaining an organized home is easier when you develop daily habits, like tidying up before bed or putting items back in their designated places.

A Personal Note from Janine

I’ll admit that most of my organizing efforts are laser-focused on my kitchen. It’s my favorite room in the house and where I spend the bulk of my time, so having it functional and tidy is a top priority. Every drawer, cabinet, and baking supply needs to have its place. I’ve spent hours thinking through and planning each area to make it work perfectly for me.

I’m tackling my essentials cabinet—flour, sugar, and other staples. It’s been a workhorse over the years, but I’m giving it a fresh start for the new year. I’m swapping the old plastic containers for sleek, reusable glass ones. There’s just something satisfying about opening a cabinet and seeing everything clean, uniform, and beautifully organized. It’s the kind of January project that makes me genuinely excited to dive in.

This is just the beginning! Stay tuned for updates as I continue my kitchen refresh. Here’s to starting the year with purpose—organizing our homes and getting our lives in order, one resolution at a time. What projects are you tackling this January? Let’s inspire each other!

Cheers,
